If you have more than a passing interest in abstract graffiti, then White Walls and Shooting Gallery’s August double-header would have peaked your interest. Transcend members Mr Jago (seen above) from Bristol in the UK and local boy Poesia (seen below) opened a pair of solo exhibitions respectively entitled New Co-ordinates and Reflexive. Coming up at the end of the next month, the Long Beach Museum of Art will be hosting an interesting group exhibition where 14 accomplished artists are asked to contribute one large scale painting from their careers which they deem as being pivotal. Streets: Shepard Fairey (New York)

Last week, Shepard Fairey (featured) visited New York City to show a little love for his fans in the Big Apple. Mr. Obey and his posse worked on a massive six story mural on Bowery just off of Broome as he took advantage of the Manhattan skyline with the help of the L.I.S.A. project. Entitled We Own The Future, this fresh creation took over three days to finish and we stopped by to document the process from beginning to end. Discuss Shepard Fairey here. On September 5th, Endless Summer from Ian Francis (featured) will be opening at The Outsiders in London. Streets: Brendan Monroe x Souther Salazar @ FFTT (Portland)

Last week, Brendan Monroe (interviewed) and Souther Salazar were able to complete their joint mural in Portland for Forest For The Trees (FFTT). The artists were invited to join the not-for-profit the public mural project, which also featured eighteen other local and international artists. Over the course of several days, Salazar painted clusters of his whimsical imagery against Monroe’s Tron-like structured background that hints at trees. Recap: Kelsey Brookes – “Sleep: The Science and The Mystery” @ LSC Gallery

An intriguing show that recently ended in Detroit at the Library Street Collective featured new works from Kelsey Brookes. Collectively entitled Sleep: The Science and the Mystery, the new paintings from the former biochemist are constructed painstakingly with colorful patterns that in an abstract way define chemical and molecular structures. This particular set of mesmerizing works from the San Diego area based artist focused on Acetylcholine, Histamine, Norepinephrine and GABA, four neurotransmitters which help regulate sleep. Brian Donelly aka KAWS is returning to Los Angeles for his third exhibition at Honor Fraser Gallery opening on the September 13th. The Regional Museum of Contemporary Art in Sérignan, France is currently showing the nostalgic abstractions of Rosson Crow (featured). Featuring 25 large-scale paintings (old and new) from the American artist, the comprehensive exhibition, her largest ever, gives attendees a good look at the psychedelic modern take on decadent interiors from the past that have become her signature imagery. After sharing photos of the high profile installation and an in depth look at the creation of new commissioned pieces for his new show in Shanghai, we now turn our attention to Cai Guo-Qiang’s explosive opening festivities at the Power Station of Art. The multi-color aerial spectacular hosted at the riverfront of the museum was a crowd pleaser and highlighted the firework art skills from the Chinese artist.
