On June 4th, Copro Gallery in Los Angeles will be presenting the debut solo show from artist and animation commercial director Jim McKenzie. Although the sculptural hybrids from the New York-based artist has a whimsical aspect to them, there is also a darker side to his work. Currently at the Legion of Honor, The Future of the Past: Mummies and Medicine is showing through August 2018 featuring RETNA’s (featured) distinct script in the background. The Los Angeles-based graffiti artist’s work has always been compared to and influenced in part by Egyptian hieroglyphs, so his career has come a full circle now with an invitation by the museum in San Francisco to paint the walls surrounding the exhibition. Os Gemeos Designs Felipe Massa Helmet

For this year’s Monoco GP, Os Gemeos have designed a special helmet for fellow countryman and Formula One driver Felipe Massa. With the relaxing of the rule forcing drivers to keep a single helmet design for a whole year (now allowed one special set of colors once per season), the Brazilian racer took advantage and asked the artistic duo to create the imagery for the new headwear including a painted version of his wife and son on the top. Streets: JR @ The Louvre (Part II)

After a first look at a new intervention at the Louvre from JR (interviewed) earlier this week, here are photos of the completed project. Pasting over the iconic pyramid in his signature technique was a time-consuming undertaking, but the impressive result is a testament to the French street artist’s artistic vision. Along with this “disappearance” trick, the TED winning artist will also be taking over the museum with conferences, masterclass, screenings, concerts, workshops on May 28th starting at 3pm. Coming up on June 18th, Library Street Collective in Detroit will be opening up a solo show by graffiti legend Futura. Entitled NEW HORIZONS, the exhibition will feature imagery that fans of the street pioneer have come to love – gyroscopes, nebulae, and other abstracted structures as well as some of his pointman characters. The new work gives a nod to local culture with titles like Shelby Yellow, Pistons, and Tiger Stripe that Motown residents will be sure to recognize. Art16 returned to Olympia, London from 19–22 May for the fourth year of this contemporary art fair. More than 100 galleries were brought together from over 30 countries, along with not-for-profit exhibitors and commissioned-artist installations. Last month, the Los Angeles Public Library unveiled a new card designed by Shepard Fairey and Cleon Peterson. The first artist-designed, limited-edition library card made available at all 73 locations features an image of the historic Central Library, which is celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2016. Back in March and April, Julien Malland aka Seth Globepainter spent another couple of weeks traveling and painting around the Fengjing and Shanghai area in China. Over the last week, JR (interviewed) has been working on his latest high profile project – painting the iconic pyramid at the Louvre. The plan is to paste for the French “photograffeur” to paste a photo over the glass structure mimicking the building behind, leading to it “disappearing” from sight. Leading up to his show opening tomorrow night at KP Projects // MKG, we had a chance to take a peek at Greg “Craola” Simkins (featured) prepping for the show in his studio. Entitled Beyond Shadows, the new solo will include detailed works focused on his surreal characters, some “drip script” pieces, and some new paintings of his favorite switchblade Stab E. Mack.
