Preview: Stella Im Hultberg – “Fragmented” @ London Miles

Next Friday night, March 11th, Stella Im Hultberg (interviewed) will be showing alongside Scott Belacastro at the London Miles Gallery. For her first UK show, she’ll be bringing a collection of paintings entitled “Fragmented”, which looks to feature a return in a way to some of the floating heads she has painted in the past as well as an obsession with hair. We are looking forward to seeing the body of work in its entirety, but for now, take a look at some more preview […]

Preview: “In the Trees: Twin Peaks 20th Anniversary Art Exhibition”

Opening tonight at Clifton’s Brookdale in LA will be a tribute show for David Lynch’s Twin Peaks. The curation for this celebration of the early 90’s cult show is top notch as it includes many artists that we follow here on AM like Eric White, Stella Im Hultberg, Glenn Barr, and Tim Biskup, just to name a few. Devotees of the show will certainly be taking a nostalgic stroll down memory lane as they revisit the spooky town through the eyes of these artists. More […]

Preview: “Is This Thing On?” @ Gallery 1988 (Melrose)

For those interested in these sort of shows, Gallery 1988, the Melrose location, has a group exhibition tonight featuring artwork of your favorite comedians. There is a massive list of artists and the funnymen or funnywomen they are paired with but we have a small preview (after the jump) of the show entitled Is This Thing On?

Preview: “The Idol Hours” @ London Miles Gallery

This Friday, November 12th, London will get another taste of the New Contemporary art movement as London Miles will be hosting “The Idol Hours” group show. With a theme that is not new but always interesting, artists involved were told to choose and reinterpret a piece of art from before WWII and recreate it in their own way. Participants include artists like Joe “2H” McSween, Chris Murray, Kevin Earl Taylor, Dave Pressler, Dave MacDowell, Angry Woebots, Yosuke Ueno, Stella Im Hultberg, Yumiko Kayukawa, Matthew Bone, […]

Teaser: “Sweet Streets II” @ Nucleus Gallery

This Saturday, Sept 11th, “Sweet Streets II” is set to open at the Nucleus Gallery in Alhambra. After a successful exhibition last year, the group show inspired by the Japanese streets makes its return with an even nicer lineup of artists including Tessar Lo, Dominique Fung, APAK, Adolie Day, Bwana Spoons, Kukula, Julie West, Mari Inukai, Stella Im Hultberg and Amy Sol. We think Amy’s work is a great match for this show as the heroines in her paintings always seem to be quite fashionable […]

Openings: “Love Conquers All” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Last Saturday night, AM stopped by the “Love Conquers All” show in Culver City at the Thinkspace Gallery. The exhibition’s concept was based on the struggle of the gay community for equality with part of the proceeds were donated to Equality California. Things don’t always turn out well for themed group shows, but this time, many of the artists were able to maintain their signature imagery yet at the same time subtly produce relevant works. More images from the opening after the jump…

Preview: “The Next Generation” Group Show @ London Miles Gallery

The largely USA based new contemporary art movement continues it’s assault on the UK next week with “The Next Generation” opening Friday June 11th at London Miles Gallery. Curated by Culver City’s Thinkspace Gallery director, Andrew Hosner, the exhibition promises new work from 45 artists, all presented in a common format of 12 square inches. Continuing the charge recently begun with “Art from the New World” in Bristol, this time the art comes to heart of the action in London itself. For many of the […]

Culver City Artwalk ’10: “Picks of the Harvest” @ Thinkspace

On right now at the Culver City Arts District is their annual Artwalk. After bringing you a look at what LeBasse Projects and Carmichael Gallery had to offer, we now turn our eye on another great gallery – Thinkspace. Heading their show is master manipulator of pop culture and satirist, David MacDowell. You can’t help but smile when you see the skill in which David takes familiar elements and remixes them into a clever and unexpected composition – like Golem heading over to “Booger King” […]

Preview / Setup: Anthony Pontius / “Vision” and “Hunt & Gather” Group Shows @ Thinkspace

Tomorrow, April 9th, a trio of shows are scheduled to welcome Thinkspace Gallery to the Culver City art district (6009 Washington Blvd., Culver City, CA 90232). For their inaugural opening night in their more upscale and larger space (formerly the home of Kinsey DesForges and BLK/MRKT), Anthony Pontius will be bringing a new body of work for the main gallery, this time centered on his own unique take on potraiture, entitled “the caped cobra and his merry band of riders”. Also, two group shows in […]
