Last Thursday, AM attended the much anticipated unveiling of Flights of Genius by Steve “ESPO” Powers. Created in association with Joshua Liner Gallery and held at the corporate offices of Ogilvy & Mather (see previous project there), the marketing agency commissioned ESPO to create a series of works that lined each floor of the stairwell for the historic building with direct quotes by legendary founder David Ogilvy. Steve Powers aka ESPO has had a busy few weeks. First, came his part in the time-consuming Street Market installation at the MOCA for the historic Art in the Streets exhibition. Then, last Friday in Copenhagen, he opened his latest solo show at the V1 Gallery entitled simply Days. A fitting title as the work in the show includes some of his daily metaltations ruminating on the complexities of everyday life with his poetic world play and signature visual language using enamel paint on metal. After an epic recreation of the historic Street Market installation along with Barry McGee and Todd James at the MOCA, Steve Powers aka ESPO has already moved on to his next undertaking. This time, it will be a solo endeavor at the V1 Gallery in Copenhagen entitled Days opening on May 6th. Street art icon and Fullbright Scholar, Steve “ESPO” Powers, who made waves last year with his A Love Letter For You urban revitalization and documentary film project (see trailer here), has released a new print with with Exhibition A today. Produced in an edition of 100, “You and Me” provides the perfect representation of ESPO’s work, with clever word play, tight typographic elements and simple imagery. We’re in London excited for the upcoming Moniker Art Fair on October 14th-17th (coinciding with Frieze Art Fair). It looks to be a rad event with many of the galleries that you’ve come to love on AM exhibiting like New Image Art, Carmichael Gallery, Black Rat Projects, CampBarbossa, Galleria Patricia Armocida and Anonymous Gallery. Building on the amazing success of his Love Letter project in Philadelphia (covered), Steve “ESPO” Powers and his sign-painting crew recently went upstate to the “Rust-Belt” city of Syracuse, New York, to transform the train bridges that divide the town’s poor Near West Side from the rest of downtown to display beautiful and inspirational messages of love from Syracuse to Syracuse. Our friends at the art collectors have posted some info and images of an interesting collaboration between Absolut Vodka and two of our favorite artists, Steve Powers (featured) and Chiho Aoshima. Each artist has designed two drink pitchers to accompany bottles of the Swedish beverage, released in different sizes depending on country. Basel Week Switzerland ’10: Volta6

The last fair we attended while in Switzerland was Volta6, and although it was way across town from Art Basel (covered, part 1 and 2) and Scope (covered), in a somewhat industrial part of the city, we were glad we made the trek. Unlike VoltaNY (covered), Volta6 was not focused on single-artist booths, so the smaller fair offered visitors a large range of interesting emerging artists.
