Openings: Kenny Scharf – “Naturafutura” @ Paul Kasmin Gallery

On Thursday night, AM attended the double feature opening for Kenny Scharf at Paul Kasmin’s two galleries – the project space hosted Three Dozen (more on that soon), while in the primary space, Naturafutura was a showcase for numerous large scale paintings which drew inspiration from Kenny’s bi-coastal studio in Bahia, Brazil. Previews: Sickboy – ‘Burning Desire’ @ Yellowpants Gallery Lisbon

If temples and typography set your world on fire, then Sickboy’s upcoming exhibition should be right up your street. Burning Desire opens this Thursday 3rd February in Lisbon. Presented by Yellowpants Gallery, we hear that the Sickboy has been in town since last weekend, so expect some heavy installation work from him. Some more preview flicks after the jump.

Streets: Phlegm (Rotherham)

UK street artist Phlegm recently painted this new piece, Whale of a Time, at the Riverside car park in Rotherham. Already damaged by the rain, the mural will be replaced in about a month and he also plans to paint a giant squid and another boat. More views after the jump…

Parisian street artist LUDO (interviewed) continues to defend his home turf with another piece in the City of Lights, this time in the middle of the main thoroughfare, Champs-Elysees. London-based artist INSA recently recently paid San Francisco a visit and threw up a mural featuring his signature imagery. LA Art Show: Murals from Andrew Hem, Chor Boogie, and Shark Toof

For several days while the Los Angeles Art Show was in town, Andrew Hem’s (interviewed), Chor Boogie, and Shark Toof were hard at work working on some large mural pieces. Interested attendees were treated to some extended live painting as each artist worked on some signature imagery for their enjoyment.
