Interview: Elbow-Toe Hits Up Streets of London

Brian Adam Douglas aka Elbow-Toe has been busy since we last caught up with him at his Los Angeles solo show. Pasting up his hand-painted woodcut paper pieces and dropping some poetry in London’s hottest spots, he’s reminding our friends across the pond that there’s more to street art than just stencils and graffiti. We’ll show you photos from the three person show he opened with Swoon (interviewed) and Matt Small (interviewed) last weekend later, but first, we bring you an interview with Elbow-Toe and […]

Releases: “Che Guevara” – Ernesto Yerena

Check out this little in-progress shot of the Ernesto Yerena’s “Che Guevara” piece. Pretty bad-ass take on the famed Latin American revolutionary. This original artwork is a 30″ x 44″ HPM with paper collage painted from hand cut stencils. The style may be reminiscent of Obey’s classic handiwork.  Well, maybe because Ernesto is actually Shepard Fairey’s studio assistant. He’s designed numerous collaborations with Shepard on notable Obey hits such as “Chuck D,” “Joan Jett,” and “Dia De Los Muertos.” This image will be made into a print dropping sometime […]

Openings: Vhils – “Scratching The Surface” @ Lazarides (Rathbone Place)

Portuguese street artist Vhils opened his first UK solo show “Scratching The Surface” last night to a packed house at Lazarides Rathbone Place. Vhils employed various mediums and techniques for his amazing portraiture pieces in the show, including stencils, collage and even a few relief pieces like the ones we saw in the video he released a couple of months ago, except this time he used acid and bleach instead of a hammer and chisel. All the photos from the opening after the jump…

Openings: Gaia & Imminent Disaster @ Ad Hoc Art

Last Friday, Ad Hoc Art had a great two-person solo show with Gaia and Imminent Disaster (previewed). The hippest of the Williamsburg crowd made their way out to see a great showing by these two street artists we recently saw in D.C. at the “Street/Studio” experience. For the show, Gaia brought the streets to the gallery with a “outdoor” installation to complement each of his works while Imminent Disaster flexed her muscles by showing off her intricate hand-cut stencils and thought-provoking imagery. All the photos from the opening […]

iArtist DIY Kits

Can’t afford to own a piece of original art of your favorite artist like Damien Hirst?  Why not make your own with these Do-It-Yourself (DIY) kits from iArtist?  What we initially thought was a joke might be for reals, and we are not quite sure to make of it.  Take a look at the Banksy kits they have after the jump…

Preview: Word to Mother – “Young Mind, Old Soul” @ FIFTY24SF

Opening tonight in San Francisco, Word to Mother’s “Young Mind, Old Soul” is looking to be a stellar, and hopefully a breakthrough, US debut for this London based artist.  Hot off the heels of his near sell out show at Stolen Space (which followed “Till the Hot Runs Cold”, a completely sold out show), WTM brought a trunk of originals, salvaged wood, rusty nails and even an exclusive print for his US collectors (teased).  AM swung by the gallery yesterday to chat a bit with […]
