Previews: Kai & Sunny – ‘Caught by the Nest’ @ Subliminal Projects

British artists Kai & Sunny, who we’ve been long time admirers of here at AM are set to open their first exhibition in the USA next week at Subliminal Projects in Los Angeles. Caught By The Nest sees the duo continuing their nature infused themes in their monochromatic highly graphical style. The artwork featured in the exhibition is inspired by the book The Reason I Jump, written by Naoki Higashida and translated by David Mitchell, a long time collaborator with Kai & Sunny and author of Cloud Atlas. Studio Visits / Previews: Shepard Fairey – “Printed Matters” @ Subliminal Projects

AM recently stopped by Shepard Fairey’s (featured) secret secondary studio where much of his “fine art” is actually made. Officially called “Studio Number Two”, the hidden industrial space houses the heavy lumber for his coming show “Printed Matters” at Subliminal Projects. After the sold out show at Deitch Projects, Shep decided to create a body of work based on his signature silkscreening technique. Utilizing mediums of metal, wood and hand painted multiples (HPMs), he and his talented crew took the entire summer building up the […]

This past Saturday, AM saw the return of Skullphone to his home of Los Angeles. The show “Digital Media” takes a closer look and questions the viewer about their relationship with technology. Skullphone always has packed opening, but this was one of the few where you had to line up and wait for the “one in one out” if you didn’t get there early. The pieces on display were visually stimulating and utilized Skullphone’s signature dot technique with pieces that were hand-composed with enamel and […]
