Returning to the massive Ace Gallery showspace in Beverly Hills after a successful solo there in 2010 (covered), the Date Farmers will be opening another exhibition tonight entitled Shit Ain’t Funny. Hailing out of the Coachella Valley, the two collaborative artists whose real names are Armando Lerma and Carlos Ramirez will be presenting works that deal with social and political issues of the working class. The Date Farmers recently opened what is sure to be their largest and most memorable exhibition to date. The duo of Armando Lerma and Carlos Ramirez, hailing out of the Coachella Valley, are on the ascent in their artistic career and now join such esteemed artists as Andy Warhol, Richard Serra, Robert Rauschenberg, and Carl Andre to show at Ace Gallery. This past weekend, AM caught the opening of the Date Farmers, Eric White (interviewed), Nicola Verlato and Fulvio Di Piazza at Jonathan Levine Gallery. The two shows were unique as it touched on both ends of the spectrum in terms of dimensions with all the way from large scale museum size works to a cornucopia of medium to smaller size pieces. Always one to be on the cutting edge of art, New Image Art Gallery opened their “14 Artists” show last Friday night. The group show was a result of studio visits and correspondence with, you guessed it, 14 different artists. We recently saw some behind the scenes photos of the making of The Date Farmersâ€™ newest print “Medicine Crow” from Modern Multiples. If the image looks familiar to you, it’s probably because you saw it at their most recent exhibition, “Strange Fruit,” currently showing at FIFTY24SF. Sounds like there are three colorways so far – “Watermelon,” “Cotton Candy” and “Southwest.” Take a look at the photo set after the jump.
