The largely USA based new contemporary art movement continues it’s assault on the UK next week with “The Next Generation” opening Friday June 11th at London Miles Gallery. Curated by Culver City’s Thinkspace Gallery director, Andrew Hosner, the exhibition promises new work from 45 artists, all presented in a common format of 12 square inches. Continuing the charge recently begun with “Art from the New World” in Bristol, this time the art comes to heart of the action in London itself. For many of the artists presented within the show, this will be first time their work has shown in the UK, and this exhibition looks to be a feast of bite-size visual treats for us folks across the pond.

The artists involved are Aaron Nagel, Adam Caldwell, Allison Sommers, Amy Sol, Andy Kehoe, Anthony Clarkson, Anthony Pontius, Audrey Kawasaki, Brett Amory, Bumblebee, Caia Koopman, Cherri Wood, Chris Murray, Craig “Skibs” Barker, Dabs Myla, Dan-ah Kim, David MacDowell, Derek Gores, Gaia, Jacub Gagnon, Jeff Ramirez, Jen Lobo, Jesse Hotchkiss, Joseph “2H” McSween, Josie Morway, Kelly Vivanco, Lesley Reppeteaux, Linnea Strid, Liz Brizzi, Mari Inukai, Mike Russek, Moki, Nathan DeYoung, Nouar, Pakayla Rae Biehn, Paul Barnes, Peter Taylor, Rebecca Hahn, Sarah Joncas, Seth Armstrong, Stella Im Hultberg, Timothy Karpinski, Tony Philippou, Tran Nguyen and Yosuke Ueno

Culver City Artwalk ‘10: “Picks of the Harvest” @ Thinkspace

David MacDowell

David MacDowell

On right now at the Culver City Arts District is their annual Artwalk. After bringing you a look at what LeBasse Projects and Carmichael Gallery had to offer, we now turn our eye on another great gallery - Thinkspace. Heading their show is master manipulator of pop culture and satirist, David MacDowell. You can’t help but smile when you see the skill in which David takes familiar elements and remixes them into a clever and unexpected composition - like Golem heading over to “Booger King” for a meal - “lord of the onion rings” indeed.

You can more delightful offerings from the gallery’s young roster for the artwalk including Aaron Nagel, Allison Sommers, Damon Soule, Imminent Disaster, Jacub Gagnon, Jeff Ramirez, Jen Lobo, Joao Ruas, Kelly Vivanco, Linnea Strid, Scott Radke, Stella Im Hultberg, Timothy Karpinski, Tran Nguyen (full list after the jump).

Preview: Timothy Karpinski @ Flat Color Gallery, Seattle

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

We’re big fans of the folk-art inspired work of Timothy Karpinski here at AM, and the mixed media artist and paper-cut technician will be showing off his skills with some new wares at a new solo show opening this evening in Seattle at Flatcolor Gallery. “This Feels Right” seems an apt title for the exhibition as Karpinski is one of the free-thinking co-owners of the Together Gallery in Portland, one of the great creative led community-vibe driven galleries out in that region. There will be a site-specific installation, 15 new paintings and as well as a limited edition print release all shown at the exhibition. From what we see, Tim’s work is looking even more intensely layered this time around, giving a unique 3 dimensional appearance to his mixed media sculptural paintings.  Take a look at a few more preview pieces from the show after the jump.
