Videos: Jose Parla – “The Concord Project”

Back in January, we shared with you a very special project in Toronto by urban calligrapher José Parlá at the Concord City Place. Now comes this video from inkblot media with some footage of the impressive large scale works in situ as well as in progress. Even more interesting is an interview with Parlá as he explains where he came from, his process, the the meanings behind the pieces for this commission, and just his passion for storytelling. Openings: “Brothers of the Weird” @ Cooper Cole Gallery

A couple weeks ago in Toronto, the newly renamed Cooper Cole Gallery hosted the opening for Brothers of the Weird. Anchored by the ever entertaining Todd “REAS” James, the group show also featured the colorful works of associates and friends Joe Grillo (Dearraindrop), Billy Grant, Devin Flynn and Ian Flynn. Todd “REAS” James, whose show at ICY signs along with Steve “ESPO” Powers featuring a exhibition of signs from their historic Street Market installation (sans Barry McGee) we just attended, has a new curatorial project coming up next month. Taking a group of friends up north to Cooper Cole Gallery (formerly Show & Tell Gallery), Brothers of Weird will include the also include the artistic stylings of Joe Grillo (Dearraindrop), Billy Grant, Devin Flynn and Ian Flynn.

Openings: Dalek & Greg Lamarche – “Geometric Balance” @ Show & Tell Gallery

A couple weeks ago, the Show & Tell Gallery in Toronto hosted new work from Dalek (interviewed) and Greg Lamarche (interviewed). Masters of structured typography and geometric shapes, the two displayed impeccable linework as well as balanced compositions in the paintings they brought. Preview: Dalek & Greg Lamarche – “Geometric Balance” @ Show & Tell Gallery

Tonight in Toronto, a pair of geometrically inclined artists will be teaming up at the Show & Tell Gallery. Aptly named Geometric Balance, the joint showing will feature Dalek’s (interviewed) space monkey abstractions and Greg Lamarche (interviewed) typographic shapes.
