Releases: Aiko – “Lady Butterfly” Sculpture (Black)

If you remember, we previously reported on the limited edition and intricate Lady Butterfly sculpture (produced by Tomenosuke Sho-ten) from Aiko Nakagawa earlier this year. The initial silver colorway easily sold out on Valentine’s Day, but the newest black version (limited to 10 each) was released just hours ago 1.00pm (JST) on September 16th and retailed for $550 here. If you are too late to purchase this piece, don’t despair. This is only the second colorway in a planned five colorways so you still have […]

Releases: Joe Ledbetter – 12″ Mutant Bunny (Hand Painted)

For those looking to round out their custom art figure collection, you’ll want to pay attention to this.  Joe Ledbetter is releasing a series of 40 hand-painted unique 12″ Mutant Bunny pieces (sculpted by Pretty in Plastic). Priced at $1500, the nicely sized pieces are priced reasonably considering what his customs go for on the market. In addition, the paint job seems to take to the resin better when compared to vinyl. More photos after the jump…

Releases: KAWS – “Karimoku” Wood Companion

Almost a year since images first leaked on the Wood Companion, KAWS appears to be ready to give an official drop to the Karimoku Companion, a more fine art spin akin to the bronze iterations of his signature mascot. Priced at¥252,000 (~$3,000) and 30cm tall (~11.8 inches), the super sexy Medicom produced figure is from an edition of 100. As is always the case, those in Tokyo will get first dibs at Original Fake next Saturday, May 28th. Otherwise, if you’re interested and you’ve got […]

Releases: Joe Ledbetter – “Colossus Bunny”

Collectors of art toys out there know that one of the old school holy grails out there are the original Wheaty Wheat figures from Joe Ledbetter – Mr. Bunny, Snow Bunny, and Lava Bunny. After a six year hiatus, the signature character from Mr. Ledbetter is back; this time in a 48″ tall fiberglass edition appropriate entitled Colossus Bunny. The run will be very limited and cost about $4000 depending on the retailer and edition. More details including the new design after the jump…

Releases: KAWS – “Dissected Milo” Vinyl Figures

In a project that most have been aware of for quite a while, it appears that the KAWS x BAPE Dissected Milo figures will see the light of day very soon. With the character appearing on a series of shirts from a few years back, and also getting a reprise with BAPE’s 2011 Spring Collection, it was only a matter of time before it was manifest in vinyl form. Coming in at 8″ in height and most likely produced in the same editions of the […]

Details: KAWS x Robert Lazzarini – “Distorted Companions”

In case you missed it yesterday, KAWS put up for sale his latest release – a set of collaboration figures with Robert Lazzarini. Unfortunately, they quickly sold out. But lucky for you, AM ran down the delivery man in order to provide a detailed look into the “Distorted Companion” figures (previewed). These jaw-dropping works blend KAWS’ iconic Companion with Lazzarini’s signature distortion treatment. The three figures were released each in three different colors: brown, gray, and black. Also, each Companion received a unique mold to […]

Happy Holidays from Gary Baseman

If you follow Gary Baseman (interviewed) work like we do, you’ll know that he takes his Toby figure with him wherever he goes as he travels the world.  You can get a glimpse of some of the action in this album on his facebook and you can also see the dated and labeled Toby’s in our studio visit here. For the holidays, Toby posed next to the “Santa Davids” at Youngwood Court in LA. Discuss Gary Baseman here.

The Selby Visits Pharrell

Todd Selby certainly has been invited to visit many of the artists that we admire in the past (ie: Robert Longo & Mr.). This time, he visits Pharrell, who just performed at Art Basel Miami (covered) in his Miami home where his collection of KAWS paintings and sculptural pieces apparently play a prominent role in his interior decorating aside from a Keith Haring piece. The series of commission pieces based on Family Guy as well as rare edition figures certainly has AM jealous – oh, […]
