Videos: Jeff Soto x Chevy Sonic

Just a couple days ago, we shared with you photos that Jeff Soto (interviewed) sent us from his trip to Richmond, Virginia for the RVA Street Art Festival. Earlier this year though, Jeff had traveled up to San Francisco for a project with Chevy that had been kept under wraps until now. Take a look at the mini-documentary above as the Riverside-based artist “collaborates” with a robotic art car on a mural as well as discusses some of his thoughts behind the project. Videos: Bill Plympton x The Simpsons

For those who missed the Simpsons last night, you might want to check out the video of the opening sequence above as acclaimed animator and cartoonist Bill Plympton was tapped to create the short. Joining other artists familiar to AM readers who have been involved in the show including Banksy, Shepard Fairey, Ron English, Kenny Scharf, Plympton used his distinctive style to put together a love affair between Homer and his couch. Releases / Publications: Fafi – “The Carmine Vault” @ Nucleus Gallery

After a signing at Colette and Galerie LJ, Parisian-based artist Fafi will be hosting a book release party at Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra, California tomorrow night, April 16th. Along with the meet and greet, fans will be treated to mini-show of her new work as well as some limited edition items. The new publication, The Carmine Vault, is a graphic novel bringing the French graf legend’s world to life while following a character called Birtak and his desire to join the Paris Opéra Ballet. Video: Cai Guo-Qiang – “Mystery Circle” Pyrotechic Display @ MOCA

We at AM luckily had the chance to witness one of Cai Guo-Qiang’s pyrotechnic displays in person when we attended the Mystery Circle event that heralded the opening of his Sky Ladder showing (covered) at the Los Angeles MOCA. What up INTERNET!? Last week your boy… Hennessy Youngman presented a fresh show at Maurizio Cattelan’s Family Business Gallery. Initially invited by Marilyn Minter for an exhibition, Youngman decided to open up this opportunity to all the local artists to submit their artwork. The show entitled Itsa small, small world ended up being maxed out the first day with submitted artwork. Rewind: April 2 – April 8

One of the stories dominating AM of recent weeks has been the behind-the-scenes look at Cai Guo-Qiang and his Sky Ladder exhibition opening today at the LA MOCA. For those whose interest was piqued by photos we posted earlier this week from Damien Hirst’s retrospective at the Tate Modern, you may want to check out the video above. Videos: Paddle8TV – “Inside the Artist’s Studio: Chris Burden”

Paddle8 has just launched their newest editorial project, which involves originally produced video. Their first Paddle8TV episode features Chris Burden, one of LA’s most well-known and respected artists. Watch as he discusses his landmark projects Urban Lights (which is one of the most popular art installations at LACMA and in the city) and Metropolis II (currently on view at LACMA as well). Among other topics, he discusses why he chose Topanga Canyon and his transition from performance artist to object-based/installation artist. Video: JR x Liu Bolin Collaboration (NY)

Last month, we brought you some photos (here & here) from the JR (featured) and Liu Bolin collaboration in New York. For fans out there who want to see more of this complex project, the people at RHC have put together a nice video documenting the entire process from start to finish. Streets: Flying Fortress (Frankfurt)

At the end of last month, Montana Cans in Germany hosted a two day event, Just Writing My Name, where graf artists were invited to paint the Friedensbrücke bridge in Frankfurt. Munich-based legend Flying Fortress, who we met at this year’s POW WOW, participated with this long mural featuring “The Hit Collection.” Check out the full wall as well take a look at a video documenting the going-ons after the jump…
