Along with a colorful backstory as to their history together and how things progressed up until the making of this video, the footage also features the two creatives explaining their thoughts behind the process as well […]

Next Saturday night (June 22nd), the Copro Gallery in Los Angeles will be presenting a new show from Peter Chan. For his first solo with the gallery and in the United States, the Toronto-based artist has created a series of works collectively entitled Soliloquy, a fitting title considering the introspective contemplations he had while producing these paintings (see statement below). Also take a look at the time-lapse video. Top 40 blares out the radio unheard, you’re stuck in traffic on the 405 but it doesn’t matter. […]

Videos: Berndnaut Smilde – “Making Clouds”

Berndnaut Smilde‘s work is defined by the temporary and the ephemeral. It lives for a few seconds and disappears, without a trace that it was ever there, documented only through photographs and video. The Avant/Garde Diaries recently recorded one of his clouds in the Green Room of the Veterans Building in downtown San Francisco. A small crowd was there to witness a smoke machine create billowing smoke forming a luscious, cotton candy-like shape in the middle of the Beaux-Arts chamber before it vaporized into haze, […]

This was created in association with Gary’s current exhibition, The Door Is Always Open (covered) at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles. Discuss Gary Baseman here.
