Streets: D*Face x Oscars

UK street artist D*Face (featured) recently stopped by Los Angeles to install some well-timed “Zombie Oscar Statues” last week. The two seven foot sculptures were installed in two locations – atop Runyon Canyon and in the parking lot of the famous Mel’s Drive-In in Hollywood near where the 82nd annual Academy Awards (Oscars) were being held at the Kodak Theatre. Our friend, Jeremy Kaplan (GM of Subliminal Projects) was along for the ride as D*Face worked his version Hollywood magic. Video: David Lynch – “New Paintings” @ William Griffen Gallery

Last we wrote about of filmaker and versatile artist David Lynch, he was collaborating with musical acts Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse on projects at Michael Kohn Gallery and with Danger Mouse again at Art Basel Week. Video: JR – “Women Are Heroes” (Paris)

Street photographer extraordinaire JR recently released a video chronicling one of his great projects, the Paris portion of his traveling show “Women Are Heroes” held during the Nuit Blanche festival (covered). In it, you can see varied response from the French people and media as well as some fabulous timelapse footage of the French artist and his crew relentlessly pasting up the banks of the Seine river. Video: Murakami x McG x Dunst – “Akihabara Majokko Princess”

Last year, we told you about the video that Murakami, Kirsten Dunst and McG were creating to be shown at the Tate Modern “Pop Life” exhibition (here). You can now see entire crazy video, (Update: We have removed the link to the video which was apparently uploaded without the authorization of Kaikai Kiki.) “Akihabara Majokko Princess”, which depicts Kirsten running around the streets of Akihabara in wild cosplay costumes while singing a cover of the Vapors’ “Turning Japanese”. To complement our recent coverage of Robert Williams’ show “Conceptual Realism in the Service of the Hypothetical” at the Cal State University Northridge Gallery, we thought you may like this cool video that Hurley made with Robert Williams. In the video, we catch a glimpse of Robert’s house and his hot rods. He also talks about his iconic “Appetite for Destruction” painting (featured) that was used for the Guns & Roses album. Videos: Armsrock – “Passage / Works” Installation @ LYSYD

Danish artist Armsrock (interviewed) recently participated in the Lightsound Project (LYSYD) in Copenhagen which included his usual life-size drawings and some fantastic light projection pieces (runs till the end of the month). If you recall, he also recently created some similar pieces for this year’s GLOW. Kai Schwenck recently put together an interesting video (seen above) documenting the entire process. Video: Faile Bast Deluxx Fluxx Arcade

Our friends over at Babelgum have put together a nice video about the “Faile Bast Deluxx Fluxx Arcade” show that we covered last week at Lazarides. Bast and the Patricks were both interviewed about the creative process behind the show among other things.  Also, there’s some nice footage of the immersive installation and artwork that transformed the gallery into a neon video arcade. Video: ABOVE – “Help Thy Neighbor” Haiti Installation

It appears that world traveler and street artist ABOVE (interviewed) recently made it over to Cuba to put up a stencil and installation regarding the current situation in Haiti, which is only 90 miles away from Cuba. The video shows a young boy holding a Haitian flag about to set up to help his “neighbors.” Can you do the same? Here are some of the many ways you can help.
