Prime, Wu Yue, 123Klan, Will Barras, Meggs, and Ekundayo grabbed their spray cans to work under the Honolulu sky. Following our preview post last week, AM spent some time with Will Barras at StolenSpace Gallery in East London during the set-up of “Bad Reception”, his latest solo show consisting largely of acrylic and spraypaint paintings on canvas. It was a great opportunity to chat with Barras about a variety of topics including the highly-influential French comics artist, Moebius — who worked on films like Alien and The Fifth Element, and whose drawings influenced Ridley Scott on the visual design of Blade Runner. Long-time friend […]

Openings: “Re-Creation II @ Ogilvy & Mather by Carmichael Gallery

One of the highlights of Armory Week was a pop-up show like none other thrown by the Carmichael Gallery and Jun Lee at the Ogilvy & Mather’s Manhattan corporate offices. Imagine allowing urban talents running a muck through each floor of office hallways and elevator entry ways creating gigantic colorful installations, filling the places where normally bland office interiors greeted you every Monday. Even the customary plasmas that housed generic greetings/company slogans where remixed with a rad loop of the artists installing their newly minted […]

StolenSpace held a pretty special closing party this week for the Original Cultures show, the opening of which we attended a couple of weeks back. Will Barras, DEM and Ericailcane took to the icy cold streets of London for an outdoor painting event to conclude the gallery show. We were also privileged to go along to fellow Original Cultures collaborator Hiraki Sawa’s studio earlier in the day to take a look at the artists (helped by Allesandro Micheli) hand-finishing a small number of the collaborative prints […]
