Streets: Wynwood Walls Update (Miami)

It looks like Wynwood Walls is kicking off things early this year because just after RETNA hit up his wall in Miami, ROA, Gaia, Nunca, HOW & NOSM, the Date Farmers, Faile, and Bast rolled into town to do their thing. Undoubtedly, this year’s event will be just as looked forward to as last year’s edition, with a nice list of artists worked up already. We’ll be checking out these murals in person once Art Basel Week Miami rolls around. *Original set of photos removed [...]

Streets: Retna (Miami)

After the pulling the cover off of a controversial collaborative mural with fellow graffiti artist Risk a couple weeks back, Retna (featured) bounced down to Miami last week to get a leg up on his fellow artists for this year’s Wynwood Walls. Originally conceived of by Jeffrey Deitch as a clever way to revitalize the debilitated Wynwood Arts District during Art Basel Miami, the annual outdoor art gathering has blossomed into an all out assault by graffiti legends, street artists, and contemporary art figures alike [...]

Basel Week Miami ’10 – “Urban Alchemists” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

The Wynwood Walls was a very unique project that brought the arts back to a worn down district of Miami. Along with the already gorgeous mural projects and indoor art cafe, this year brought another aspect to the Wynwood destination – a unique project space where Jonathan LeVine put on his Urban Alchemist group exhibition (previewed). We stopped by to hang out and soak in the works of AJ Fosik, Dan Witz, Doze Green, Invader, James Marshall (Dalek), Jim Houser, Judith Supine, Mario Martinez (Mars-1), [...]

Videos: Basel Week Miami ’10: Wynwood Walls

As you know, Wynwood Walls was one of the centerpieces of the Art Basel Week Miami experience when it came to outdoor work. Other than the photos we shared with you here, we thought you would like to see some video footage of all the action provided by Vernissage TV. As an added bonus, Tony Goldman, the man behind the entire project, and his daughter Jessica were interviewed on the subject (seen after the jump).

Basel Week Miami ’10: Wynwood Walls

Last year, Wynwood Walls started out as an ambitious project to revive and reclaim the worndown Wynwood Arts District with art. This year, Tony Goldman upped the ante by expanding the project space with new works and installations by Ryan McGinness, Invader, Kenny Scharf, Ron English (featured), Jeff Soto’s (featured), Logan Hicks (interviewed), Friends With You and Shepard Fairey. In addition, a restaurant and a project gallery space were also created on-site to keep onlookers submerged in the arts. After checking out the space during [...]

Streets / Basel Week Miami ’10: Jeff Soto
