Teaser: Basel Week Miami ’10 – TrustoLand & More

During last year’s Art Basel Week, the world was first introduced to the newly formed TrustoCorp with their unique take on urban art, in which they beautified a host of South Beach sign posts (covered). It looks like the socially conscious street art collective, along with the assistance of Contra Projects, is returning to the scene of the crime and has some big plans for this year’s art festivities in Miami. The subversive collective, who typically spend their time enriching urban neighborhoods – yet simultaneously [...]

Basel Week Miami ’09 – Wynwood Walls Video

Here’s another sweet video from the minds at Vernissage TV. This time, they are profiling the Wynwood Walls project that we have been covering all of last week at Art Basel. It was a pretty mind-blowing to see so many large murals from quality artists all in the same location, something that probably doesn’t happen without the influence of Deitch with the backdrop of the premiere art fair in the U.S. Discuss Art Basel here.

Basel Week Miami ’09: Barry McGee – Wynwood Walls Mural

After opening his epic show last month at PRISM, Barry McGee moved on to Art Basel for his next project. For his Wynwood Walls installation, McGee covered an entire building with his signature geometric patterns, left plenty of tags, trademark imagery, and threw in an overturned car as well, smoke machine and all.  AM spent some time salivating over the details on the site all the while documenting everything to share with you! More images after the jump…

With additional pieces by Aiko, Barry McGee and Swoon (interviewed), expect Wynwood Walls to present an impressive showing later this evening. More pictures after the jump.

Openings: Gert and Uwe Tobias – The Breeder, Athens

AM was in Athens, Greece, and stopped into The Breeder to check out the latest show by Romanian-born twins Gert and Uwe Tobias. We first became aware of the brothers a few years back after happening upon a show of theirs at a gallery in Los Angeles’ Chinatown, where we were instantly taken by their dark yet playful works on paper. Since then, they have done quite well to say the least, exhibiting at MoMA, as well as at prestigious galleries around the world.
