Opening in May at the Roq La Rue Gallery will be a group show based around the theme of tigers, inspired by William Blake’s poem “The Tiger” (seen after the jump). After a successful showing at Joshua Liner Gallery (covered), Yumiko Kayukawa hops over to the west coast to hit up Shooting Gallery for her next conquest – “Wild Wild East.” The November 14th show is a whiles away, but we thought you’d drool over this bad-ass little teaser. Over the weekend, AM attended the opening of two shows at New York’s Joshua Liner Gallery. In the front gallery was Yumiko Kayukawa’s “God from the East,” which consists of a new collection of small- and medium-sized paintings. Kayukawa’s work blends modern and traditional aspects of Japanese culture with a colorful, playful style.Â In gallery two, Vancouver-based artist Ben Tour is exhibiting a selection of dark and free-flowing portraits of women on canvas and paper, as well as a large-scale mural. Headed out to Palm Springs last night to attend the opening of Matt Dangler’s “Out From the Whirlwind” (previewed) and Yumiko Kayukawa’s “The Last 34” (previewed).Â Matt’s paintings looked to be getting more detailed with this body of work.Â He also spent time explaining some of the symbolism and geometry behind each piece leaving us impressed with the amount of planning and thought he gave to each painting.Â Yumiko’s show highlighted many of the endangered species around the world including polar bears, elephants and leopards.Â […]

Japan native Yumiko Kayukawa’s show “The Last 34” opens tomorrow night concurrently with Matt Dangler’s solo at M Modern Gallery. Yumiko is known for her fashionable women, colors, and Japanese motifs. For this show, she seems to have make use of more animal clusters – we love the composition in the piece seen above.
