Previews: Hush – “Innocence” @ Urban Angel Art Lounge

Last month, we brought you a hint of what to expect from Hush (interviewed) in “Innocence,” his upcoming solo show at Urban Angel Art Lounge. With the opening reception just days away – the show will be on display from November 12th through December 12th – we are excited to bring you an exclusive preview of this stunning new body of work. Says Hush, “I believe progress is important and always push myself to move forward. The pieces for ‘Innocence’ are a comment on the hentai/manga/pornography scene […]

Streets: Mark Jenkins in Moscow

An interesting piece from Mark Jenkins has appeared in Moscow… It’s nice to see his tape sculptures continue to evolve and grow. Take at look at some of his previous outdoor work here and here. You can also see more of his work on his website. Via TWBE. Discuss Mark Jenkins here.

Openings: Chloe Early – “Clouded Apollo” @ StolenSpace Gallery

Chloe Early’s (interviewed) solo show “Clouded Apollo” opened at StolenSpace Gallery last week in London. Just as we suspected after our studio visit earlier in the month, her new body of work was well-received with lots of fans attending to show their support. Chloe mixed buildings, sun-bathers, tanks, and what looked to be a common theme – roses and butterflies together in an pleasing eclectic composition. More images after the jump…

Teaser: Travis Louie @ Shooting Gallery

Love must be in the air, because everywhere we turn there seems to be weddings… December will be no exception as Travis Louie (interviewed) brings a new body of work to the Bay Area. His Shooting Gallery solo will focus on – you guessed it – weddings. Of course, with a Louie twist… We’ll have more for you as the show gets closer. Discuss this show here. Video: Jeff Soto – “The Sun Rises Again” Timelapse

Jeff Soto (interviewed) recently sent us this timelapse video of his piece “The Sun Rises Again” that he painted for the Giant Robot Biennale this year. It was definitely one of the standout pieces from that exhibition, and we are happy to see that Jeff is continuing to paint these ambitious pieces as his work is really suited for the large scale (like on the streets here and here). Check out one he’s working on for Art Basel this year here.

Teaser: Scott Belcastro @ LeBasse Projects

Scott Belcastro isn’t an artist we have featured here before but we really like the direction he has been taking recently. Take a look at this teaser for his upcoming show at LeBasse Projects in December. He’s known for his melancholic landscapes and his skillful use of dead space. Take a look at another piece he was working on at the Beyond Eden Art Fair. Discuss Scott Belcastro here.

Video: D*Face for LA Freewalls Project

As we mentioned in a previous article, D*Face (interviewed) is in Los Angeles now for various projects (more on this later). One of the things he’s participating in is the LA Freeswalls – 50,000 sq. ft. of wall space has been set aside in the heart of the arts district in Los Angeles.  In this video, you can see him painting a side by side mural reminiscent of the one he did recently in New York when he was in town for his LeVine show (covered). Congrats Mr. and Mrs. Ryden!

In what looks to be a magical wedding deep in the forest, Mark Ryden and Marion Peck tied the knot amongst friend and family. With a beautiful setting and costumes that just seem appropriate, the artists made it official. We wish them all the happiness in the world and many years painting together…

Baby Tattooville ’09 – Reverse Studio Visits – Philip Warner

Ever wonder how GQ, Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair and Playboy get those awesome covers and how those photographers create those brilliant pictures? Short answer: Lots of HARD WORK! That’s what AM learned at Baby Tattooville as Philip Warner gave us a demonstration of what it’s like to be a professional photographer. With clients such as MTV, Playboy, SonyBMG and CSI: New York, it’s not hard to see that his expertise is highly sought after. Phil set up shop in his hotel suite and transformed it […]
