The exhibition of Takashi Murakami’s latest work (teased) at the Gagosian’s smaller London gallery on Davies Street opened last night to an enthusiastic crowd. Arrested Motion was on hand to check out the latest from this prolific artist and leader of the Superflat movement. It turned out to be a small show that will accompany the major exhibition at Bilbao’s Guggenheim. The Gagosian space was dominated by just three massive works – two paintings from Murakami’s Time Bokan series and one simply huge piece featuring masses of the artist’s well known KaiKai and Kiki characters. On this scale, the Time Bokan pieces were particularly powerful. It also was pretty special to see Mr. Murakami himself in attendance talking with everyone, signing and doodling whatever was presented to him including body parts and AM’s sketchbook – cheers Takashi ; ).
