Culver City’s Koplin Del Rio will be presenting the second solo showing from Melissa Cooke at their gallery this Saturday night, May 19th. Entitled Surfaced, the new body of work comprising of powdered graphite on paper pieces explores the relationship between photography, painting and drawing in portraiture. Cooke takes photographs as she paints and pour liquids onto herself using her face as a canvas. These photos are then used as references for the final paintings leading to the boundaries between the mediums being broken down and the processes are interwoven.
