Openings: Futura – “Introspective” @ Magda Danysz (Paris)

Earlier this week, graffiti legend Futura created new work for a Paris show at Magda Danysz Gallery entitled Introspective. Drawing from many of the series of works that have defined his career, the NYC-based artist presented street influenced abstractions, figurative work featuring his pointman character, and paintings that included his famous atom motif. Rounding out the exhibition were a selection of manipulated photos similar to what fans have seen him post on his Instagram for a while now. Previews: Michael Carson @ Arcadia Contemporary

This Thursday night (June 19th), Arcadia Contemporary in New York will be hosting the opening for Michael Carson’s new exhibition. For his first solo with the gallery, the Phoenix-based painter drew references for his chic women and impeccably dressed men by his observations of people on the streets. This love for fashion is evident in Carson’s work as well as the use of repeated patterns and motifs that add another layer of complexity to his work. Streets: LUDO (Paris)

LUDO (interviewed) spent the last weekend putting up new series of pasteups around his hometown of Paris, titled Love and Riot. The work is strongly motivated by the current situation in France and some other parts of Europe where he feels extremist far right politicians and parties are gaining more and more popularity. This new edition features up top a new collaboration wall from SABER (interviewed) and ZES at the Artist & Craftsman Supply building in Los Angeles. The two local and MSK affiliated writers combined their styles for an impressive wrap on the side of the structure. Recap: Yoskay Yamamoto – “House of Daydreamers” @ Giant Robot 2

Giant Robot 2 in Los Angeles recently closed out a show from Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed) entitled House of Daydreamers. The exhibition highlighted the locally-based artist’s diverse range of works including paintings, installations, and wood sculptures. The title of the show summarizes nicely some of the dreamy imagery that we have come to love from him, along with more literal interpretations. Showing: ROA – “PROJECTUM 06” @ StolenSpace Gallery

Currently showing at the StolenSpace Gallery in London through July 4th is an exhibition from ROA entitled PROJECTUM 06. The installation and new body of work featured his dissected portrayals of wildlife from the places he has traveled and reflects the work on the street from the Belgium-based artist. As per his style, many of his pieces have interactive aspects and deceptive visual props like mirrors which were enjoyed by all as they walked through the gallery. Photo credit: Paul Whitehouse. Brazilian street artist Ttitfreak recently released photos of a mural he recently painted for Seido Restaurant in Rio de Janeiro. Drawing from his Japanese heritage, his imagery fits in perfectly with the cuisine in this restaurant which in this case featured one of the koi fish that we often see from him.
