About one year since his last show during Armory Week 2014 (covered), Know Hope is about to open a new solo, this time with Gordon Gallery in Tel Aviv, on March 26th. After intensively working on it for the past 6 months, Truth and Method is shaping up to be his largest solo exhibition in Israel to date.
For this new exhibition, the Israeli street poet pushes his signature textual works to a whole new level through a series of triptychs created through an extensive and very emotive process. The original idea of these site-specific quotes and verses was to suggest an image instead of illustrating it. For this project, Know Hope connected these with his love for tattoos and wrote those same phrases on people. By creating these life-long marks himself, using the stick and poke method, with no machines used, his work literally manifested itself in a new shape and with new life. Unlike walls, the people carrying these texts are actively presenting them in different situations, giving them a new meaning and context.
Finally, he created the artworks in the studio “that translates these human situations into more universal/less specific ones.”.The end “product” of this process are gallery pieces consisting on triptychs showing the original outdoor work, a photographed portrait of a person with the same tattoo in an everyday life situation, and studio artwork, showing different possible methods of disclosing or telling the same truth.
