Like his show there in 2012 (covered), the paintings from Luke Chueh’s (interviewed) upcoming show at Rotofugi were created with the location in mind. The Los Angeles-based artist has taken one of his repeating motifs and fully fleshed it out for his one and only solo exhibition of the year set to open on May 8th at the designer toy boutique in Chicago. Not only is this image of his “sad bear” taking off his head as if it was a costume revealing its true inner self (seen above with Rotofugi’s Abe Lincoln logo) one of his most iconic creations, it will also be turned into a toy by Munky King soon with interchangeable heads (more on this later). Take a look at some selected preview images below featuring pop icons, other Chueh characters, and more.
