Openings: Aaron Horkey & Esao Andrews & João Ruas – “The Gilded Age” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Over the weekend, Thinkspace Gallery in Los Angeles opened the doors to The Gilded Age featuring new works by Aaron Horkey, Esao Andrews, and João Ruas. Co-curated by Andrew Hosner of Thinkspace and Horkey himself, the duo set out to put together a “dream-team” exhibition, giving it a title that harkened back to the late 19th century and the industrial revolution.  Horkey ended up handpicking Andrews and Ruas to accompany him and the results are truly outstanding. Streets: D*Face – “Bad Lands” (Fort Smith)

Over the weekend, D*Face (interviewed) completed a mural in Fort Smith, Arkansas, an effort that took five days. Painted for the Unexpected event curated by Just Kids, the piece entitled Badlands features a cowboy astride a horse rendered in the British artist’s comic inspired style. Releases: Mark Jenkins – “Baby” Limited Editions

In association with the new solo from Mark Jenkins (interviewed) that just opened at the Fabien Castanier Gallery in Los Angeles (covered), the artist has released some limited editions through Freeway Editions. The Baby tape sculptures come in four different colors and are produced in a run of 10 each and is something every fan of the American street artist recognizes as the medium that is his original claim to fame. Openings: Zaria Forman – “SLIP” @ Winston Wächter Fine Art

Last week, Winston Wachter Fine Art in New York hosted the opening of Zaria Forman’s exhibition entitled SLIP. Infused with climate change awareness, the pastel drawings from the Brooklyn-based artist documents subjects that range from the melting icebergs in Greenland to the rising sea levels that threaten the Maldives. Upcoming: Casey Weldon – “Hastemaker” @ Roq La Rue

Starting on October 1st, new works collectively entitled Hastemaker will be on display at Roq La Rue from Casey Weldon (featured). For his return to the Seattle showspace (see 2014), the locally-based illustrator and fine artist will be presenting more dreamlike paintings utilizing a hyperchromatic palette, of which the piece above Pixel Perish is a good example. Hitting the streets of Los Angeles once again, Anthony Lister (filmed) spent time getting up all over town the last couple weeks leading up to his current show at New Image Art. Showing his versatility with the roller and spraycans, working day and night, the Australian vandal left one of his signature ballerinas at Superchief Gallery as well as his take on police brutality (seen above).
