Tomorrow night at Giant Robot 2 in Los Angeles, Edwin Ushiro (interviewed) will be opening a new solo show entitled Capturing What Still Glimmers. Employing a laborious and unique technique (mark making and painting, then scanning and outputting to acrylic, Lucite or Plexiglass and then painted once again), the locally based artist is able to achieve a luminosity and ethereal quality to his work. The dream-like effect only enhances the nostalgic feel to his imagery as it harkens back to the experiences of his youth and the myths of Hawaii where he once resided.
