On November 29th, art dealers Larry Gagosian and Jeffrey Deitch opened their second collaborative group exhibition for Basel Week Miami. After successful Unrealism show in 2015 (covered), this year’s edition titled Desire, attracted the creme de la creme of the world collectors with its impressive selection of works.
Starting with sculptural works at the very entrance of the unique Moore Building in Miami’s Design District, through paintings in different mediums and formats, to photographs, drawings, video installation and even live models, the show explores modern and contemporary approaches to eroticism in art. From subtle touches to full blown porn imagery depicting both straight and gay sexual orientation, the works cover the past, present as well as the sci-fi concepts of futuristic erotic. The show includes original and rarely seen works by Noboyushi Araki, Alejandro Jodorowsky, Balthus, Allen Jones, Walter Robinson, Vanessa Beecroft, Jeff Koons, Ed Ruscha, Hans Bellmer, Harmony Korine, David Salle, Cecily Brown, Deana Lawson, Jenny Saville, Joe Coleman, Roy Lichtenstein, Kenny Scharf, William Copley, Diego Rivera, Malerie Marder, Tschabalala Self, R. Crumb, Marilyn Minter, Hajime Sorayama, John Currin, Pierre Molinier, Eric Stanton, John DeAndrea, Carlo Mollino, Juergen Teller, Urs Fischer & Georg Herold, Helmut Newton, Tom of Finland, Eric Fischl, Gaspar Noé, Andy Warhol, Nan Goldin, Eddie Peake, John Wesley, Keith Haring, Francis Picabia, Jordan Wolfson, Barkley L. Hendricks, Pablo Picasso, Martin Wong, Noritoshi Hirakawa, Richard Prince, Francesca Woodman, Alex Israel & Bret Easton Ellis, and Man Ray Harumi Yamaguchi, and will stay on view through December 4th.
