Luke Chueh’s (interviewed) first major show in Los Angeles in over three years will be opening a little over a week from now on September 8th at Corey Helford Gallery. Entitled ANTHROPOMORPHUCKED, the new exhibition will be his most eclectic to date as the locally-based artist has had time to prepare some pieces that have been on his mind for some time now. Along with some of the expected painful situations he puts his cartoonish animal characters in, Chueh also explores some more personal, cultural, and conceptual ideas.
He further explains some of the new paintings – “When I started painting with my characters, I admittedly felt bad for them. It was like I was god, meting pain and suffering on to my creations. However, after a decade, there are days when it feels like this relationship has changed, the tables have turned, and now I am the victim.”
