George Thompson, also known as EWOK, recently unveiled a solo exhibition of works at LA’s own Known Gallery. The show is centered around a world where the Ku Klux Klan plays competitive organized basketball. Although the artist has played with the idea before in pieces that have been included in group shows, he wanted to expand it further and continue the conversation in a full-scale exhibition. Thompson feels that although racism still exists in today’s society, it is rarely directly addressed. The juxtaposition shown in the paintings explores racial issues in a confrontational and overt way and will hopefully reignite conversation on the topic most people like to avoid.
