Aside from the major fairs operating during Art Basel Week in Miami, there are countless art shows, launches and parties occurring during this tightly packed period. One unique building housed two notable ABMB events. The Pritzker Architecture Prize winning structure (designed by Herzog & de Neuron) held a great exhibition entitled PISTON HEAD: Artists Engage the Automobile. This show utilized the top floor and held a selection of classic automobiles reinterpreted by a distinguished group of artists including Ron Arad, Bruce High Quality Foundation, César, Dan Colen & Nate Lowman, Keith Haring (see above), Damien Hirst, Virginia Overton, Olivier Mosset/Jacob Kassay/Servane Mary, Richard Phillips, Richard Prince, Tom Sachs, Salvatore Scarpitta, Lucien Smith, Kenny Scharf and Franz West.
Two floors below, Colette & Alchemist teamed up to present a pop-up shop featuring editioned works by a slew of artists. Holding true its Art Drive Thru theme, the shop operated like a vintage restaurant of the 50’s & 60’s. Patrons can drive their car up to a ordering terminal to place their orders and a server in roller skates will deliver your goods to you ASAP. Of course, walk-ups were also welcome. From Supreme artist decks & unique tote bags created by Sam Falls x Dr. Romanelli to rare collabs such as Moncler x Pharrell apparel to Rolex’s created by Jose Parla x Bamford, it seemed that there was something to interest even the most serious art enthusiast.
