Tomorrow night (May 7th) at Joshua Liner Gallery in New York, Erin M. Riley (interviewed) will be opening a solo show entitled Darkness Lies Ahead. Recently acquiring a two person loom which she is using herself has allowed the Brooklyn-based artist to take her work to a whole new level with her largest works to date – over eight feet wide. The fresh weavings will focus mainly on two of her series of works: the Selfies featuring portraiture sourced from young women on the internet as well as from her own self-portraits and The History Pieces, pieces that document car crashes, skid marks, and the residue of trauma. Her process is time-consuming, starting with her washing, stripping, and hand dying every string herself before they even reach the loom. Fans in NY will be able to see the fruits of her labor themselves this weekend.
