Following up on his The Omega Project from 2017 (covered), Rone has taken that idea to the next level by creating an immersive installation in an abandoned Burnham Beeches art deco mansion in the heart of the Dandenong Ranges. Entitled Empire, the new undertaking from the Australian street artist near his homebase of Melbourne sees him paint his signature portraiture on the walls of the 12 room property. Created over the course of 12 months, the project combines art, vision, sound, light, botanical design and scent to take audiences on a haunting journey back in time through the derelict space.
One further explains – “I want people to walk in and feel like they can explore the possibilities of what might or might not have happened here. I love exploring the concept of how — and why — something so magnificent can be left to decline into ruin. Empire is about offering audiences the chance to create their own story; to temporarily transport their minds to another place, another time.”
