Opening last week, Throw-ups at NANZUKA in Tokyo marks James Jarvis’ (interviewed) first solo showing in Japan in the last four years. The exhibition continues the British artist’s laser-cut wooden relief works that were last seen earlier this year in Paris (covered), but also features a wide range of techniques including new spray paintings, colored acrylic panels, a bronze sculptural work, and of course drawings. For Jarvis, daily drawing forms the basis of his practice and those figurative musings are where his signature characters originate and then evolve into different forms through diverse mediums.
