This Saturday night (December 2nd), James “Dalek” Marshall (interviewed) will be opening a solo show at Thinkspace Gallery in Los Angeles. The Space Monkey Returns features a new body of work celebrating the 20th anniversary of one of the North Carolina-based artist’s most iconic characters. It seemed Marshall had retired the space monkey a while back and moved on to other things, but as he mentioned in his recent interview here, it made sense to revisit it at this time. Artist James “Dalek” Marshall (interviewed) recently released a new bedding collection through Target featuring his iconic imagery. The duvet cover set and pillow covers highlight different stages of his career including the space monkey phase as well as the current geometric pattern-based work his is known for now. Releaese: Dalek – “Untitled 101” Print

James Marshall aka Dalek (interviewed) recently released a 38 color handpulled silkscreen through Dynamo Editions. Untitled 101 comes with a paper size of 26 inches by 26 inches and an image size of 24 1/2 inches x 24 1/2 inches and was produced in an edition size of 50. New Dalek Mural (North Ridge Basketball Academy)

Just in time for winter mini camp, James Marshall aka Dalek (interviewed) recently completed new murals at the North Ridge Basketball Academy. The locally based artist harnessed his signature gradiated geometric aesthetic to paint the walls high up in a gym that any hoops fan would love to play in, perfectly capturing the organization’s philosophy and ministry. The geometrically inclined James “Dalek” Marshall (interviewed) recently travelled from his home in North Carolina to paint Instagram’s first ever sponsored public art at the Brooklyn Bridge Park. Working on a double decker container, he covered it in his signature combination of lines, shapes, and colors creating a striking mural that stood out against the New York skyline in the background. James Marshall, or better known as Dalek (interviewed) by some of his fans, recently finished a series of murals at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art. Painting his distinctive color spectrum style throughout the institution including the SMoCA Lounge, Store@SMoCA, and a mural (co-commissioned by Scottsdale Public Art) in the outdoor courtyard wall that leads to SMoCA’s permanent James Turrell Skyspace, the Hurley affiliated artist and designer certainly left his mark. Last month in Huntington Beach, Hurley and the legendary Craig Stecyk III brought together a group of artists to create limited edition designs and screen prints on an etching press. Continuing to produce public displays of his geometric mastery, James Marshall aka Dalek (interviewed) recently painted another mural at the Hobie Surf Shop in Corona Del Mar. Orange County is kind of ground zero for fans of the American artist’s work because of his affiliation with Hurley – leading to many shows, product lines, and associated events in and around Hurley Space. Installation: Dalek – “Spectrum Analysis” @ Flanders Gallery

Tonight (September 7th) in Raleigh, North Carolina, the Flanders Gallery will be hosting Spectrum Analysis, a showing of new installations from James “Dalek” Marshall (interviewed). Continuing his exploration of abstract geometries, last seen in Orange County in July, Marshall will be filling the showspace with large-scale blue paintings executed on modular panels. Created last year during a residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, these diamond and starburst forms will interspaced with murals painted directly onto the gallery walls.
