Basel Week Miami ’10 – Paula Cooper Gallery

Two stars of the last auction season – Rudolph Stingel and Kelley Walker, who both had auction records set, were featured up close and personal at Paula Cooper’s booth during Art Basel Miami Beach.  The gallery’s stacked roster of artists provided them with fantastic pieces by the aforementioned duo and also Carl Andre and Wayne Gonzales (pictured above).  The diversity of their program was on display as you can see after the jump…

Basel Week Miami ’10 – Andrea Rosen Gallery

With a booth containing sculptures by two of the hottest artists working today – David Altmejd and Sterling Ruby and large-scale pieces by Wolfgang Tillmans, Andrea Rosen Gallery’s booth at Art Basel didn’t need to do much further to stand apart from the others at the Art Basel fair, but stand out it did.  With a small room dedicated to work by the late Felix Gonzalez-Torres whom the gallery is showing at their New York location in a couple of days, Rosen made its booth […]

Releases / Streets: Nate Lowman Bullet Hole Print and NYC Wall

The Details Guild is an organization that works with leading artists to broaden community interaction with art through public installations, art education and mentoring programs.  They recently called upon Nate Lowman (who had a triptych shown at this year’s Basel Miami), who, with the help of some students, created a wall mural that went up on the corner of West 13th and Washington in NYC. In addition, he made a signed print edition of 50 featuring his signature bullet hole to raise money for teen […]

Basel Week Miami ’10: Massimo De Carlo

Talk about a booth at Art Basel Miami Beach that had a space full of the world’s hottest artists.  Italy’s Massimo De Carlo’s booth featured scorching youngsters and established artists alike, including Nate Lowman, Dan Colen, and Kanye West favorite George Condo.  Fresh off one of the most talked-about shows in NYC this fall, Dan Colen brought by a beautiful large canvas and a word painting.  Nate Lowman’s triptych included familiar imagery, including his signature bullet hole.  The ever-present Condo had a row of small […]

Basel Week Miami ’10 – Rhona Hoffman Gallery

As we strolled down the aisle’s of Art Basel Miami Beach, our eyes wandered towards paintings that were undeniably and unmistakeably by a certain artist.  That artist is Kehinde Wiley and they were hung on the walls of  Chicago’s Rhona Hoffman Gallery’s booth.  The pieces are from The World Stage: India-Sri Lanka series and feature – what else – portraits of various men.  Meet the rest of them after the jump…

Overtime: Dec. 5 – Dec. 11

Now, the world’s most expensive book – John James Audobon’s Birds of America. Steve Martin (one of the world’s best art collectors), Shepard Fairey, Andres Serrano, and Frank Stella on Colbert Report. Jeffrey Deitch planning a Julian Schnabel retrospective at MOCA Steve Martin boring?  He talks art, interrupted because not entertaining enough, later apologized to. Lost Leonardo di Vinci manuscript fragment found in France. Ai Weiwei picked on again.  This time, China bans him from traveling to Korea.  But the good news this week is […]

Basel Week Miami ’10 – Sprüth Magers

Sprüth Magers – based out of Berlin and London – certainly brought back to the states work by some of America’s best artists.  Their booth included a prominent sculpture by Sterling Ruby, a painting by artist-of-the-hour George Condo (whose paintings seemed to be everywhere at the fair this year), a photo by Cindy Sherman, a large text-based installation by Jenny Holzer, instantly-recognizable John Baldessari and Barbara Kruger pieces, and a painting by Jeff Koons.  See them for yourself after the jump… More after the jump…

Basel Week Miami ’10 – David Kordansky Gallery

One of the galleries with the best stable of “emerging” artists at Art Basel Miami Beach was David Kordansky Gallery.  The Culver City, CA stalwart represented Los Angeles’ growing art scene to the fullest with fantastic pieces by such talked-about artists as Elad Lassry, Aaron Curry, and Kathryn Andrews.  Its booth was so hot that they reportedly sold-out their entire show.  See the pieces they exhibited after the jump…

Basel Week Miami ’10 – Faurschou

Walking into Copenhagen and Beijing-based Faurschou’s booth at Art Basel Miami Beach was like walking into a carefully-curated, intimate museum show.  With pieces by Ai Weiwei (including a half-million dollar sunflower pile that was created pre-Tate), Cai Guo-Qiang, Robert Rauschenberg, and Lucian Freud, everywhere you looked, you saw near-masterpieces.  They certainly brought out the big guns, which you will see after the jump…
