Streets: Jasper Wong x Kelly Towles (Washington DC)

Last week, Washington DC added another mural to their public space through the efforts of Jasper Wong and Kelly Towles. Painted on the side of an abandoned CIA building for the Art Yards event, the six-story high piece features a surreal image of a dinosaur and bandit playing cat’s cradle, a child’s string-based game. Basel Week Miami ’13 / Previews: Tracey Emin – “Angel Without You” @ Miami Museum of Contemporary Art

As we march towards this year’s Art Basel Week in Miami, we’ll continue highlighting some events you may want to attend if you will be in the area. Next up is an exhibition from Tracey Emin’s entitled Angel Without You at the Miami Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami, the first American museum to add one of the English artist’s work to their permanent collection. Publications: KAWS for i-D Magazine

KAWS (aka Brian Donnelly) was recently featured along with James Jebbia (founder of Supreme) in i-D Magazine in their Collector’s Issue. Entitled “boys and their toys: a tale of two titans,” the article on these two men whose brands have the fervent following of a multitude of fans, also includes a photoshoot with Candice Swanepoel, the South African model best known for her work with Victoria’s Secret. Openings: “Three The Hard Way” @ Breeze Block Gallery

Earlier this month, the Breeze Block Gallery in Portland played host to a three-man show entitled Three The Hard Way. The three artists, Christopher Derek Bruno (interviewed), Augustine Kofie (featured), and Jerry ‘Joker’ Inscoe are all members of the Transcend Collective and have evolved their individual aesthetics while drawing from their graffiti background. Upcoming: Todd “REAS” James – “Swords & Sorcery” @ The Newsstand

Tomorrow (November 23, 3-9pm) in New York, Todd James will be releasing a zine at The Newsstand in Brooklyn (inside the Metropolitan Ave.-Lorimer St. stop on the G and L trains). Those attending the event will see a Sword & Sorcery themed installation based on the dungeons and dragons type pieces he has been posting onto his Instagram (some more of which are seen below) recently. FriendsWithYou makes a return to Miami next month for a special project at The Mondrian for Art Basel Week. The showing entitled Somewhere Over the Rainbow will explore the full color spectrum and how they relate to emotions spanning from the combination of colors (white), representing life, to the absence of color (black), representing death. Previews: Kelsey Brookes – “Better Living Through Chemistry” @ Judith Charles Gallery

Continuing with the themes he was exploring for a sold out show in San Diego last year, Kelsey Brookes will be presenting new work tomorrow night (November 21st) at the Judith Charles Gallery. His first solo in New York will feature abstract paintings and musings on molecular structures drawing from his scientific background, especially focusing in on drugs that affect the human consciousness. Openings: Ryan McGinley – “Body Loud” @ Galerie Perrotin

Over the weekend, Galerie Perrotin in Paris presented 20 new works from photographer Ryan McGinley. Entitled Body Loud, the selection of photos are a continuation of the New York-based artist’s signature imagery taken during summer road trips with his friends, staging and posing them in natural settings with his recognizable aesthetic.
