Streets: Banksy – “Better Out Than In” (New York) – Day 19, 20, 21

After we visited his literal outdoor gallery installation last Friday, Banksy continued his assault on the streets of New York over the weekend. Adding a video in Staten Island (below) that completed his tour of all five boroughs, Mr. B also created a clever strength tester stencil piece (below) utilizing existing elements, and a new one in South Bronx to start your Monday off (above). Previews: Do Ho Suh @ Lehmann Maupin (Hong Kong)

On November 14th, Lehmann Maupin’s Hong Kong location will be opening a new show featuring the works of Do Ho Suh. For his first solo in the SAR, the Korean artist will be continuing his Specimen series of works where he recreates ethereal reproductions of various appliances from his New York apartment. Previews: Brendan Monroe – “Turning” @ Galerie LJ

Coinciding this week with the start of the FIAC art fair in Paris, Galerie LJ will opening Brendan Monroe’s (interviewed) latest solo show tomorrow (October 22). Entitled Turning, the exhibition will include a series of new paintings on paper and wood sculptures will continue the move towards abstraction in his recent work with imagery exploring his fascination with nature and its organic intricacies. Streets: World Roundup (Aug 5 – Oct 20)

It’s time again for another Streets World Roundup where we review some the public art that you may have missfed recently. Leading things off is this sweet new mural form Phlegm. The Sheffield-based artist painted this Welsh Dragon in Roath, Cardiff for the Empty Walls Festival organized by the Modern Alchemists in Wales. You can check out more photos here. Openings: Beyond Eden 2013

Last weekend, the fourth Beyond Eden art fair opened its doors at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery at Barnsdall Park. Great crowds of art lovers showed up to support the various galleries (Thinkspace, C.A.V.E Gallery, Copro Gallery, and Spoke Art) and the artists represented. Some highlights were as special presentation recognizing Greg Escalante’s contributions to the LA art scene, the first showing of Chet Zar’s Ego Death project, as well as the Bird’s Eye View and Wild At Heart II group exhibitions. Streets: Slinkachu – “Why is it so hard to find a job?” Series (Paris)

Street artist and photographer Slinkachu recently was in Paris where he set up his Why is it so hard to find a job? series of work (construction worker, guard, saleswoman, scientist, and electrician) around town. Upcoming: Ron English – “Popogandastan” @ Corey Helford Gallery

On October 26th, the Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City will be opening a new show from Ron English (featured) entitled Popagandastan. Presenting a new series of surreal paintings, the exhibition re-introduces Angelenos to some of his signature characters such as the neurotic Ronnnie Rabbbit, Combrats, Snappers, Wolves, Sheep, Quacks, Buddha Burgers, and of course Cowgirls. Jeff Koons x Dom Pérignon Sculpture Package (London)

Following the recent announcement for the release of the Jeff Koons x Dom Pérignon Sculpture Package (covered here), we were invited to the launch party during Frieze art week in London. For those who can’t afford the £15,500 which includes a mini-Balloon Venus along with the Rosé champagne inside, you can opt for the special Koons boxes of Dom Pérignon Blanc de Blancs (£130) and Rose (£315) sold at a pop-up at Claridge’s. Openings: Dmitry Shorin – “Flight” @ Erarta Galleries (London)

Russian artist Dmitry Shorin is currently exhibiting at Erarta Galleries in London until the 16th of November. The body of work titled Flight features paintings that work on his now familiar aviation theme. Openings: John Casey – “Little Excorcisms” @ Breeze Block Gallery

Earlier this month, The Breeze Block Gallery in Portland presented all new works from John Casey (along with Mike Egan’s solo ) entitled Little Excorcisms. For those familiar with the Oakland-based artist’s work, you will recognize his continued exploration of “fictitious human morphology” with his strange creations that seem to take a fantastical view of different body parts.
