Streets: Nick Walker (Paris) Part II

After hitting up Paris with some street work (covered) back in February, Nick Walker (interviewed) has return for more. One of the walls (seen above) he painted was a mirror image of the piece he submitted for the Fifty Fifty group show that opened last week at Parisian showspace Mathgoth Galerie. Take a look at another piece from the Bristol-based artist after the jump…  As a bonus, we added another collaborative piece he painted with SheOne from his last trip there as well.

Videos: Damien Hirst Retrospective @ Tate Modern

For those whose interest was piqued by photos we posted earlier this week from Damien Hirst’s retrospective at the Tate Modern, you may want to check out the video above. Vernissage TV stopped by the polarizing art figure’s preview showing and captured footage of many of the highlights as they went from room to room. Discuss Damien Hirst here.

Teaser: Kenny Scharf @ Honor Fraser

In about a week, April 14 to be exact, Kenny Scharf (interviewed) will be opening his newest show at the Honor Fraser Gallery in Los Angeles. Although we spied his animated character on TV recently for his cameo on The Simpsons, we haven’t attended a solo from him since NY early last year. If you are lucky, there may be the customary free donuts – besides the amazing art of course – for those attending although you may have to be satisfied with a performance […]

Kozyndan – The Audience Office Mural

Husband and wife duo, Kozyndan, recently completed a two-piece mural for the offices of The Audience in Los Angeles. The vibrant large-scale pieces covered the walls floor to ceiling with imagery that expresses their fascination with the bizarre and their love for the ocean (like their show in NY). Take a look at the entire image in stunning detail here, but also take a look at more shots from the office after the jump…

Showing: Do Ho Suh – “Home Within Home” @ Leeum Samsung Museum of Art

Currently showing at the Leeum Samsung Museum of Arts is native son Do Ho Suh’s Home Within Home. Bringing his signature sculptural works made from sheer fabric, the Korean artist explores the idea of his nomadic lifestyle lying in various major metropolitan areas of the world. With colorful and ethereal suspended structures greeting visitors when entering, the exhibition certainly makes an impression. We even saw some of the household items from last December’s Art Basel on display. More photos via Designboom after the jump…

RISK Paints Santa Monica Home

You may remember last year September, we told you about Risk and Retna (featured) collaborating on painting a house in Santa Monica. That controversial project raised money and awareness for the Heal the Bay Foundation, but drew the wrath of neighbors and resulted some drama and threatened fines from city officials. This time, developer Adam Corlin has commissioned only RISK to cover a new property, minus the scaffolding, with his distinctive abstract style. Look for a more revealing look in May in conjunction with RISK’s upcoming solo show. Discuss Risk here.

Teaser: “Tropico Post – Apocalyptic” @ Extra Extra Gallery

With the opening booked for April 7th, the Tropico Post – Apocalyptic group exhibition artists will be filling the Extra Extra Gallery in Philadelphia with their work soon. Gideon Chase, Rachel de Joode, Joe Lacina, Alex Lukas, Matthew Palladino and Erin M. Riley will be examining the two seemingly discordant subjects of the apocalypse and the tropical “get away.” For his part, Palladino will be continuing his exploration of the three-dimensional nature of his artists vision that we first saw during his solo in San Francisco […]

Video: JR x Liu Bolin Collaboration (NY)

Last month, we brought you some photos (here & here) from the JR (featured) and Liu Bolin collaboration in New York. For fans out there who want to see more of this complex project, the people at RHC have put together a nice video documenting the entire process from start to finish. For those in NYC, you may want to check out Liu Bolin’s show at Eli Klein (covered) after stopping by the mural. Discuss JR here. Discuss Liu Bolin here.

Teaser: “Fifty Fifty” @ Mathgoth Galerie

Tomorrow night (April 4th), Mathgoth Galerie in Paris will be opening their Fifty Fifty group exhibition. For this showing, artists were asked to work with 50 x 50 cm canvases to create whatever they wanted. Nick Walker (interviewed) sent over a look at what he submitted, but if you are in town you may want to also check out what C215, Cope2, Cornbread, Crash, Labrona, L’Atlas, Smash137, Tilt, Zevs, and more have contributed. Take a look at the full list of artists after the jump…

Teaser: Nimit Malavia – “Finding Together Again” @ Spoke Art

This Thursday night (April 5th), Nimit Malavia will be opening his solo exhibition Finding Together Again at Spoke Art in San Francisco. Drawing from a background in illustration, the Canada-based Malavia has created a body of work that features worlds of reinterpreted myths and religious symbols with imagery alive with raw emotion and wild movement. Take a look, after the jump, at the signed, numbered and embossed mini prints that will be given away to the first 100 attendees to the opening…
