Previews: Josh Keyes – “The Hermit” & “Migratory Soul” Figures

After releasing his first sculptural edition last year, Josh Keyes (interviewed) is already working on another two to the delight of his collectors. Based off two of his complimentary paintings The Hermit & Migratory Soul, the two figures are already are in their protoype form. Videos: Tauba Auerbach – “[2,3]” Pop-up Book

Our regular readers will know what we have been enamored with the work of Tauba Auerbach for quite some time now. One of New York-based artist’s projects that we have been following (NY Book Fair, release, launch party) is her amazing [2,3] Pop-up Book. The slip-cased collection of six portfolios, feature intricately folded paper forms that seamlessly transform into three-dimensional geometric scuptures when open. New Yorkers are in for a treat next month (September 12th) as José Parlá will be returning for another showing (see 2011 & 2013) at Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery. Streets: Mars-1, Damon Soule, Oliver Vernon (Denver)

Whenever some of the Furtherrr Collective boys get together (see 2012, 2013, 2013), you can expect something special to go down. That’s exactly what happened last week in Denver at Cultivate Colorado (666 Buchtel Blvd.) when Mars-1, Damon Soule, and Oliver Vernon combined their powers create this otherworldly mural. With imagery from the three artists that mesh so well together, the new wall is a welcome addition to the cityscape and will stand as a testament to their talent. Releases: James Jean – “Tiger III” Print

Next week, James Jean (interviewed) will be releasing a new signed and numbered print, Tiger III, on his website. As a timed release, the limited edition will be available for 24 hours starting at 8:00 AM PDT on Tuesday, August 19th and ending at 7:59 on Wednesday the 20th with the run being determined by demand. Upcoming: Bruno 9li – “Materia Radiante” @ David B. Smith Gallery

Coming up on Thursday, August 14th, Bruno Novelli (aka Bruno 9li) will be opening his first solo show with David B. Smith Gallery in Denver. We have not been following the São Paulo-base artist of late, but the new works entitled Materia Radiante drew our attention with the use of vibrant colors and geometric forms inspired by long walks in the rainforests of his native county. Including paintings on canvas, drawings on paper, digital works, and metagraphic maps, the versatility of the Brazilian artist will be on full display. […]

Currently showing at Narwhal Contemporary in Toronto is a three person show entitled View Point Geon featuring the work of Matthew Feyld, Alvaro Ilizarbe, Paul Wackers. For this exhibition, the Canada-based Feyld continues to explore the continued abstraction of his figurative work while Ilizarbe brings Haring-esque patterned wall sculptures from Peru.
