Openings: “SuperAwesome: Art and Giant Robot” @ Oakland Museum of California

Last weekend, the Oakland Museum of California opened a new exhibition, entitled SuperAwesome: Art and Giant Robot, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the art and culture magazine Giant Robot. Along with a diverse selection of GR branded paraphenalia and publications, artists who have been involved with them over the years contributed original artwork as well as some wall murals. We first introduced you to Berndnaut Smilde’s work last year, when a video was released documenting the Amsterdam-based artist’s amazing process of creating “clouds” indoors. Showing: Jonathan Yeo – “Portraits” @ The Lowry

For those who missed Jonathan Yeo’s exhibition (covered) at the National Portrait Gallery in London, you may want to head north to The Lowry in Manchester. Portraits sees the British artist’s work travel up for another museum showing, featuring many of his most famous subjects including Kevin Spacey, Damien Hirst, Helena Bonham Carter, George Bush (cast in one of Yeo’s porn-infused collages), and others.
