Preview: Gregory Euclide @ Martha Otero Gallery

Opening this Saturday (April 13th) in West Hollywood is Gregory Euclide’s first solo exhibition with his West Coast gallery Martha Otero. The artist will present fresh work consisting of landscape relief paintings along with a series of porcelain-coated steel specimens painted with Japanese sumi ink. Euclide uses a range of media to create his signature immersive landscape pieces, including both components found in nature and also artificial ones as well. As we shared with you last month, today was the unveiling of KAWS’ 16-feet-tall COMPANION (PASSING THROUGH) sculpture at Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station. Last month, Tauba Auerbach’s traveling exhibition Tetrachromat reached its stop in Belgium at Wiels Contemporary Art Center. Fans of the New York-based artist’s exquisite work in other parts of Europe like Bergern Kunsthall in Norway in 2011 (covered) and to Malmö Konsthall in Sweden in 2012 already had their chance to witness it in person – now it’s Brussels’ chance. Over the weekend, Regen Projects in Hollywood played host to a new show from the New York-based Marilyn Minter. Although known to a subset of her fans for her sexually-charged photographs exploring the pathology of glamour, Minter also expresses her artistic vision through paintings on occasion. Last week, the Galleri Nicolai Wallner hosted the opening for a new exhibition from Bay Area-based artist Clare Rojas. As fans of her illustrative paintings full of folk art imagery have seen in recent showings (here & here), her work has become more and more abstract with this set of new paintings being no different.
