World Tour – Completing the Gagosian Gallery x Damien Hirst Spot Challenge

227 hours – That’s how long it took for AM to travel the globe and complete the Spot Challenge presented by Damien Hirst x Gagosian Gallery. As we broke the news about this unique promotion, we thought, “why don’t we take Damien up on his challenge instead of just reporting on it?” Some of us have long been fans of Mr. Hirst’s spot paintings, so pair that with the opportunity to visit eight awesome cities (Geneva, Paris, London, Rome, Athens, New York, Los Angeles and Hong Kong) and […]

Last Friday night, the OHWOW Gallery in Los Angeles hosted the opening for Daniel Arsham’s the fall, the ball, and the wall. Displaying a deep interest in architecture and its relationship to the natural world, the NY-based artist’s collection of pieces for this showing can be grouped into three categories – structural interventions featuring his signature melting or dripping creations, a series of canvas works depicting buildings with elements that spell out words, and a hanging cloud of tinted spheres. More photos after the jump […]

After bringing you a glimpse of the behind-the-scenes action last week, some more detailed photos have leaked that should serve to only stir up the desires of street and contemporary art fans even more – perhaps enough to encourage them to make the trek to the opening this Saturday. Unfortunately, the showing has closed already but you can check out some of our photos after the jump…

Releases: Kaws – “Partners” Figure

KAWS fans out there will be pleased to know that the next figure from the street turned contemporary artist has dropped. Partners features a sculpt of the artist standing next to his companion figure. If this looks familiar, it’s because you probably have seen the statue at Disneyland featuring Walt Disney standing next to Mickey Mouse although not cringing like in this version. There’s a little more info here, but also take a look at more detailed shots after the jump…

Showing: Geoff McFetridge @ Cal Poly San Luis Obispo University Art Gallery

Geoff McFetridge, who recently dazzled us with his collaborations and showing with Heath Ceramics, traveled up north a bit to the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for a solo exhibition at their University Art Gallery. The Los Angeles-based McFetridge not only displayed some new paintings with his signature minimalistic wit and associated wall murals, but also gave a well-attended lecture that spanned topics informed by his experience not only artist but also as an animator, graphic designer, and filmmaker. The show is on until February […]
