With the releases of associated products in recent days, fans of KAWS had been eagerly awaiting the unveiling of his SEEING/WATCHING duo of sculptures in China. Perched high above ground level on the Changsha IFS Tower in Hunan, the recognizable BFF and Companion characters from the Brooklyn-based artist were finally introduced to the public last week and sit back to back on the edge of a rooftop terrace. The site-specific installation was produced in collaboration with AllRightsReserved and is accompanied by panels of KAWS’ imagery as well as a display of his […]

Streets: Mar-1 / RAD Napa Project

Following up our previous coverage of the RAD Napa project (curated by Thinkspace and sponsored by The Napa Valley Wine Train), we now have photos from something Mars-1 (featured) painted recently. Creating a mural from his Infinite Tapestry series next to the railroad tracks, the Bay Area-based artist wove multiple globes of his bubbles together on the two part wall. The organic forms really pop against the stark black background, especially when viewed from the train. Photo & video credit: Birdman Photos. Discuss Mars-1 here.

Showing: Inka Essenhigh @ Miles McEnery Gallery

Currently on view until May 25th at Miles McEnery Gallery in New York is a new selection of works from Inka Essenhigh. Returning to the medium of enamel, the locally-based artist has created surreal paintings that continue her imagery of flora and fauna frolicking in the woods, with a hint of inclusion of urban elements. Abstract and figurative at the same time, the cartoonish renderings feature a psychedelic Fantasia-like aesthetic that take the viewer into a different world. Photos via the gallery.
