Video: Hitler’s Reaction to Deitch Named as MOCA Director

For those who spend a lot of time on the internet, um yes, like us, you will have seen some sort of parody by now involving Adolf Hitler in scenes from the German film “Downfall”. The Führer, played by actor Bruno Ganz, can be seen berating his generals during the last days of the Nazi regime, except the subtitles are all rewritten for comedic effect. For example, his mock reactions to the bursting of the real estate bubble or Kanye West’s dissing of Taylor Swift. […]

Preview: Phillips de Pury Contemporary Art Evening and Day Sales

AM continues its coverage of the London February Auctions (see our Christie’s preview) with a look at Phillips de Pury’s Contemporary Art Evening and Day Sales (February 12 – 13 2010). Take a look after the jump…

Openings: Tomokazu Matsuyama – “In Case You’re Lost” @ Frey Norris

On Thursday night, Tomokazu “Matsu” Matsuyama (interviewed) opened his latest solo show, “In Case You’re Lost”, at San Francisco’s Frey Norris. The vibrant collection of paintings, sculptures, and installations, consisting of what we affectionately call the “2.0” era of Matsu’s exciting career, were welcomed by the enthusiastic bay area crowd. As hinted in our studio visit/preview, these new works boldly elevate Matsu’s already keen eye for colors, geometrics, and abstract concepts/characters to a new level. We also enjoyed the various mediums and sizes of the […]

Interviews / Preview: Tristram Lansdowne – “Refuge” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Toronto-based artist Tristram Lansdowne (featured) opens his New York – and United States – solo debut “Refuge” this coming Saturday, February 13th, at Joshua Liner Gallery in the heart of Chelsea.  The exhibition follows his recent solo show with LE Gallery in Toronto last year (see our coverage here) and we’re definitely enjoying Tristram’s vision of the defaced and derelict, along with the surprises that may lie within or beneath the surface. AM caught up with Tristram and put some questions to him ahead of the […]

Art Los Angeles Contemporary ’10 – Rental Gallery

New York’s Rental Gallery had a fantastic booth at Art Los Angeles Contemporary, featuring artwork in a range of mediums, including sculpture, photography, painting, and mixed media. They featured artists from their talented roster, including Andrea Longacre-White, Matthew Chambers, and artist, editor, and musician Brendon Fowler.  The highlight was Fowler’s collision of framed artwork, with a row of pretty floral pieces interrupted by a photograph crashing violently along the middle (pictured above).  And, who can resist a giant painting of everyone’s favorite hot sauce, Tapitío? […]

Video / Photo Essay: Ryan McGinley – “Lightness Of Being An Olympian”

After recently creating a video for Pringle of Scotland, photographer Ryan McGinley has moved on to the next project in his young directing career. “Lightness Of Being An Olympian” is a video he directed for the New York Times about the upcoming 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. In it, you can see some nice visuals and the characteristic color work that McGinley is famous for in some of his photography. Of course, the project also allowed him to document some of the action in a […]

It’s been almost a year since his solo at Honor Fraser and we’re sure that we aren’t the only ones fiendin’ for their KAWS fix. Discuss KAWS here.
