Releases: Parra x Kidrobot – “Pierced” Figure

On June 7th, Kidrobot will be releasing (in-store and online) a new figure from Dutch artist Parra entitled Pierced. The 10-inch vinyl sculpture is inspired by the melodramatic cover art of romance novels and based on imagery from his original silkscreen artwork. The entwined figures which demonstrate the simultaneous pain and pleasure that many experience while in love will set collectors back $150 and will be limited to an edition of 300. Via mashKULTURE.

ArtMRKT San Francisco ’12 – “Highlights”

artMRKT is one of the art fairs taking place in San Francisco over the weekend, with over 70 modern and contemporary galleries at the Concourse Exhibition Center. Art Focus: Sharon Moody

This week’s Art Focus sets its sights on Washington, D.C – based Sharon Moody and her gorgeous and photorealistic comic book paintings. Moody, who is also employed as a graphic designer, has been a teacher at Georgetown University since 1998, including instructing in courses of drawing, painting, design, and technical art history. This particular series of works have been labelled her trompe l’oeil paintings, which play with deceiving the eye and convincing the viewer that objects depicted in art appear in three dimensions.  Well played… […]

Releases: Aaron Horkey – “Andrew Bird” Poster

Aaron Horkey fans out there, tomorrow will be your next chance to get ahold of one of his works, albeit a limited edition. His Andrew Bird screenprint will be available at Friday, May 18th at  “around” 2pm Central Time at Postersandtoys. Mars-1, Oliver Vernon, & Damon Soule Mural (Arizona)

Not new to mind-blowing collaborations (see 2010), three members of the Furtherrr Collective got together for another mural in Arizona. Painted at the Flagstaff Brewing Company, friends Mars-1, Oliver Vernon, and Damon Soule each added their ingredients to the organic brew resulting in a vibrant, kinetic, and large piece for the public to enjoy.  Here’s hoping they get together for more projects in the future. Currently showing at William Baczek Fine Arts through June 2nd is The Secret Pet Society from NY-based painter Travis Louie (interviewed). The new body of work for this Northampton, Massachusetts exhibition focuses in on people and their strange pets, an angle that Travis has explored before.
