Releases: Dan May – “Road Trippin'” Print

On May 12th, this Thursday (12pm EST), Dan May (interviewed) will be releasing a new print entitled Road Trippin’ featuring some of his signature hairy critters going for a ride. Originally part of his Gentle Creatures print subscription but a few will be made available in his online shop. Produced in an edition of 50, and measuring  14″ X 11″, you can purchase one to add to your collection for $65 if so desired. Discuss Dan May here.

Previews: Mike Leavitt – “King Cuts” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Returning to Jonathan LeVine Gallery after a successful showing there in 2013 (covered), Mike Leavitt (interviewed) will be presenting a new body of work come May 14th. Entitled King Cuts, the new sculptures focus on renowned directors, molded in a way that recalls some of their most famous movies. Previews: Deth P. Sun @ Grumpy Bert

Returning to Brooklyn’s Grumpy Bert after a showing there last year, Deth P. Sun will be this time teaming up with Gemma Correll for a joint exhibition. For his part, Sun will be contributing more acrylic on wood paintings of his cat-like adventurer, rendered in vivd colors. Album Covers: Kevin Peterson x Red Hot Chili Peppers

For their new album, The Getaway, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have decided to use the work of Kevin Peterson on the cover. The image chosen was cropped from the Houston-based artist’s Coalition II painting (seen below), some of his instantly recognizable imagery of children strolling through urban environments with their animal companions. Recap: David Choe // Igloo Hong (Morocco) – Part I

Last month, David Choe (featured) led a group of artists into the wilds of Morocco on another Igloo Hong funded project (also see Cambodia). Included on the trip to Marrakech were repeat attendees El Mac & Andrew Hem along with newcomers Mars-1, Aaron Horkey, and DVS-1. The evening of May 5th, Peter Ferguson’s Lifeboats of a Sinking Witch will open at Roq La Rue in Seattle. As per his usual aesthetic, the Canadian artist has prepared a series of oil paintings painted in a traditional manner that evoke early 20th century small town Americana. On closer examination, the subject matter is what distinguishes his work from the classics with fantastical and surreal elements. Coming up on May 5th, An American Astronaut In London will open at StolenSpace, a new exhibition from Scott Listfield. For his first solo in London, the American artist has created a fresh collection of paintings featuring his signature astronaut in an alternate version of the British capital, “left seemingly abandoned in the mid 90’s, covered in graffiti, and sprinkled with band posters from prominent British bands of 20 years ago.” Fans should stop by before the end of the month as the showing closes on May 29th.
