Tripling down on his collaboration with Uniqlo, KAWS will be releasing a new collection that re-imagines the world of Sesame Street. The new selection of adult and kids t-shirts from the Brooklyn-based artist is a follow-up to his Peanuts (covered) & Companion (covered) projects with the Japanese casual wear designer, manufacturer and retailer. Previews: Ben Tolman – “New Drawings” @ Jonathan LeVine Projects

This Saturday (June 23rd), Jonathan LeVine Projects in New Jersey will be presenting the insanely detailed drawings of Ben Tolman in a solo show. Working with both geometric forms and urban sprawl, the Washington D.C.-based artist creates frenetic compositions that will introduce you to some new intriguing new element with each viewing. Streets: Telmo Miel – “As Far As The World Extends” (Rotterdam)

Earlier this month in the Netherlands, Telmo Miel got up a majestic new mural for the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps. Working on the historical ‘Van Ghent’ Base in Rotterdam, the Dutch duo titled the piece after the motto of the elite amphibious infantry unit – As Far As The World Extends. Openings: Scott Listfield – “ALGORITHM” @ Spoke Art (SF)

Earlier this month, Scott Listfield’s ALGORITHM opened at Spoke Art in San Francisco, continuing to document the  post-apocalyptic journeys of his reoccurring astronaut character. As with most of his shows, the Massachusetts-based painter presented a versatile body of work strongly influenced by where he was exhibiting. As such, his spacesuit wearing protagonist can be seen with Bay Area landmarks in the backdrop as well as interacting with drones, self driving vehicles, robots and other tech. Releases: Pejac – “A FOREST” Print

Released in conjunction with his upcoming exhibition in Paris (covered), A FOREST is a new limited edition from Pejac. The painstakingly hand pulled photopolymer edition (measuring 105 x 75 cm) features a piece from the Spanish artist’s Venice show (covered) of smog-covered industrial chimneys letting out a thick smoke that then form a tree-lined landscape in the sky, typical of Pejac’s focus on environmental issues and clever imagery.  Available through a lottery systems to show visitors, the print (run of 80) will be available for purchase […]

Recap: Brendan Monroe – “Formations” @ Heath Ceramics (Los Angeles)

Continuing his longstanding collaboration with Heath Ceramics (also see 2014 in LA and 2015 in SF), Brendan Monroe (interviewed) recently held a showing at their Los Angeles showroom. Entitled Formations, the focus of the new body of the work was experimenting with Heath tile’s flat clay surface as a new medium for his organic patterns. Rounding out the exhibition was a selection of framed wall hangings, large and small, along with drawings and blob sculptures, some of which can still be viewed in the gallery space. Previews: “The Cat Art Show 3: The Sequel” @ Think Tank Gallery

Art loving feline fans rejoice, for the third edition of The Cat Art Show is returning to Los Angeles. The biennial exhibition is once again at Think Tank Gallery and will run from June 14 to June 24. This edition of the show will include over 140 works by 100 artists including Mark Ryden (pictured above), Martin Wittfooth, Marion Peck, Scott Hove, Seonna Hong, Ellen Won Unwerth, C215, and many more, each working in a range of media including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, collage and embroidery. Releases: Gary Baseman – “Ahwroo” Figure

Tonight (June 11th) at 10 PM EST, Gary Baseman (interviewed) will be releasing a figure through APPortfolio entitled Ahwroo. The sculptural edition (run of 300) of hand painted polystone measures  21 x 29 x 16.5cm and will cost $340 for those interested. Baseman states – “Ahwroo, my vicious creature, is so hungry for affection, he can draw blood and kill the object of his affection. Releases: James Jean – “Sun Tarot” Print

Tomorrow (June 12th) starting at 8:00 AM PDT, James Jean (interviewed) will be making a new print available for 24 hours only. Entitled Sun Tarot, this time-limited giclee comes with gold foil accents and custom designed embossments and of course will be signed and numbered. Measuring 27″ tall × 19-1/2″ wide (image size 23-3/4 ″ tall × 17″ wide), this edition based on a painting (seen below) from James’ recent show in Japan (covered) will be available here starting at the appropriate time.
