Kozyndan – The Audience Office Mural

Husband and wife duo, Kozyndan, recently completed a two-piece mural for the offices of The Audience in Los Angeles. The vibrant large-scale pieces covered the walls floor to ceiling with imagery that expresses their fascination with the bizarre and their love for the ocean (like their show in NY). Paddle8 has just launched their newest editorial project, which involves originally produced video. Their first Paddle8TV episode features Chris Burden, one of LA’s most well-known and respected artists. Watch as he discusses his landmark projects Urban Lights (which is one of the most popular art installations at LACMA and in the city) and Metropolis II (currently on view at LACMA as well). Among other topics, he discusses why he chose Topanga Canyon and his transition from performance artist to object-based/installation artist. Discuss Chris Burden here.

Currently showing at the Leeum Samsung Museum of Arts is native son Do Ho Suh’s Home Within Home. Bringing his signature sculptural works made from sheer fabric, the Korean artist explores the idea of his nomadic lifestyle lying in various major metropolitan areas of the world. With colorful and ethereal suspended structures greeting visitors when entering, the exhibition certainly makes an impression. Openings: Olek & David Peterson – “Synthetic Nature” @ Krause Gallery

AM recently attended the Olek’s latest show at New York City’s Krause Gallery. Yes, we said NYC. The rogue urban crocheter was out on bail from the UK and returned to her hometown to do a show with David Peterson entitled Synthetic Nature. For this special event, Olek ditched her signature yarn and utilized balloons. Using synthetic rubber, she built an cave installation by weaving semi-inflated balloons in a way that would make even Krusty the Clown blush. RISK Paints Santa Monica Home

You may remember last year September, we told you about Risk and Retna (featured) collaborating on painting a house in Santa Monica. That controversial project raised money and awareness for the Heal the Bay Foundation, but drew the wrath of neighbors and resulted some drama and threatened fines from city officials. This time, developer Adam Corlin has commissioned only RISK to cover a new property, minus the scaffolding, with his distinctive abstract style. Look for a more revealing look in May in conjunction with RISK’s upcoming solo show. Discuss Risk here.

The Hole Gallery continues to push the edge as their latest collaborative project between E.V. Day and Kembra Pfahler opened up this past Friday to a packed house. The title GIVERNY references impressionist legend Claude Monet’s estate located in Giverny, where E.V. Day stayed during her Munn Artist Residency. Inspired by the lily padded ponds located on the estate, E.V. invited Pfahler to the actual garden to shoot the photos in this exhibition. Last weekend, the Corey Helford Gallery played host to the opening of the Natalia Fabia (interviewed) curated show Hookers. With the theme in mind, her artist friends including Kent Williams, Michael Hussar, Phil Hale, Erik Sandberg, Saber, REVOK, and more created pieces for the show that showed a diversity of mediums and range of artistic vision.
