Streets: Zilda

French artist Zilda (interviewed) recently visited the northwestern port de St. Catherine in his native country for some relaxation. Of course, always one to mix business with pleasure, he pasted up some of his most recent works throughout seaside locale. You’d be hardpressed to think of a better placement by any other street artist when looking at this stunning new piece on a half-sunken ship. More after the jump…

When ABOVE (interviewed) spotted a sweet opportunity on the streets recently in the form of what looked like a frame on a public wall, many different options ran though his head. He finally settled on creating a piece as a play on the fact that Banksy’s street work gets taken so often by unscrupulous “collectors” and the irony of the fact that originally before Banksy’s mass appeal, he painted his popular rat image that read, “Because I’m worthless.” Read more ABOVE’s thoughts behind the piece […]

Releases: Faile Bunny Boy Bronze (Deep Cherry Patina)

Among some of the items dropped today in Faile’s webstore is the third colorway for their iconic “Bunny Boy” sculpture. The newest patina for this bronze limited edition piece is “Deep Cherry”, and like the “Chocolate Brown” and “British Racing Green” (seen in our studio visit) iterations before it, will produced in a run of 10 and cost $4000 each. On Wednesday, Todd James aka REAS’ will be opening his first solo show in Madrid at Galeria Javier López. Judging from the show card and sneak peeks, the work will be a continuation of his last solo earlier this year in New York at Gering & López. Those attending the show will see the Deitch Street Market alum’s vision of a “Great Adventure” sure to include soldiers, cartoonish tanks, bombs, blood, women, and more… Discuss Todd “REAS” James here.

AM stopped by LeBasse Projects this past weekend to attend the opening of “Hope’s Reply”, collaborative duo Herakut’s newest solo show. Melding a perfect combination of the raw stylings of the beautiful Hera (interviewed) and the amazing photorealism of Akut, the German street duo impressed with the richness and whimsy of their new body of work. Last week, AM attended the opening for Anthony Lister’s (interviewed) art installation for the Standard Hotel in NYC. This unique exhibition has Anthony creating a special sculpture edition of masks, guns, knives and more using his renowned style. Each mixed media original is hand created and painted by Mr. Lister with 30 pieces in the collection created exclusively for the Standard. Fame Fest ’10: Slinkachu

Probably one of the last artists (see other artists here) to stop by Grottaglie before the Fame Festival opening next weekend is street miniature photographer Slinkachu. The London-based artist worked his magic with his street installations in the Italian town that would probably go unnoticed if you didn’t know where to look. On Thursday, AM braved the stormy streets of New York to attend the launch event at Faile’s pop-up gallery where the Brooklyn duo kicked off the release of their soon-to-be bestseller “Prints + Originals 1999–2009” (previewed).
