Openings: Shepard Fairey – “An Exhibition of Fine Art Prints” @ The Independent

Longtime supporters of Shepard Fairey’s work, ToyRoom Gallery and Outer Edge Studio, hosted his latest show, An Exhibition of Fine Art Prints this past weekend at the Independent in Sand City, CA. The show features an array of works direct from the Obey Giant archives, such as screens on metal, large format prints, a hand painted multiple, a couple of stencil collages. Openings: Prime – “Not For Sale” @ Loft In Space

Hawaii-based graffiti writer Prime just had an opening entitled Not For Sale at Honolulu’s Loft In Space. You may remember his gorgeous peacock mural at this year’s Pow Wow back in February. This time, he exhibited a fresh set of large works including a crisply painted ride. As always Prime’s dope images aren’t just skin deep, his style masks a thoughtful view into the social and artistic lives on the islands of Hawaii. Openings: T&J Art Walk Charity Exhibition

As mentioned in our previous look at the streets of Oslo, the T&J Art Walk took the art work indoors for an impressive charity exhibition that opened this past weekend. With sale proceeds benefiting the Human Rights Watch’s (HRW) work, Streets artists such as Faile, Shepard Fairey, Logan Hicks, D*Face, The London Police, Will Barras, Flying Fortress and more; donated their fine art for a great cause. Openings: “Summer Group Exhibition 2011” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

A little while back, AM caught the opening of Joshua Liner’s annual Summer Group Exhibtion. Some artists new to the NY gallery like Chloe Early, Evelyn Rydz, Herbert Baglione and Greg Lamarche joined the ranks of the gallery regulars such as Damon Soule, Dave Kinsey, David Ellis, Evan Hecox, Oliver Vernon, Pema Rinzin, Ryan McLennan, Shawn Barber, Stephen Powers, Tiffany Bozic, Tomokazu Matsuyama and Tony Curanaj. Openings: INSA – “Gloss” @ Above Second (Hong Kong)

Last week, the UK-based INSA brought his erotic and distinctive works to the Above Second Gallery in Hong Kong. Included in the exhibition was a large mural featuring feet and heels, a regular motif in his work. Additionally, one wall displayed a photo set of his Girl On Bike series (which he added to while in town). Also available was an exclusive glow-in-the-dark limited edition for those interested. Openings: Risk & Nathan Ota – “That Was Then, This Is Now” @ LeBasse Projects – Culver City

This past weekend, Lebasse Projects hosted a traveling exhibition (see SF coverage) which featured collaborations by artists Risk and  Nathan Ota. Titled That Was Then, This Is Now, the show brought together the two long time friends for an exhibit which showcased a superb collection of artwork diplaying each artist’s strengths and respective styles. Saturday evening saw the opening of Damon Soule’s latest show, Then What Happened at Fecal Face Dot Gallery (previewed). The show featured a series of paintings in a variety of sizes that visually expressed the scientific aspects of Time (such as wave collapse and special relativity) and using it as a base to build upon. Summer is coming down the home stretch and people are getting ready to take their last vacations before fall. This also means that it was time for Jonathan LeVine Gallery to hold its annual Summer Invitational group show (previewed). Mr. Levine took time to exhibit a select batch of artists including Daniel Martin Diaz, Eric Fortune, Hello Monsters, Edwin Ushiro, Dick Chicken, Melissa Haslam, Above, Nicoletta Ceccoli, Yuko Shimizu, Jennifer Delilah and Meryl Smith on the gallery walls. Last Friday, the C.A.V.E. Gallery and Brooklyn Street Art in collaboration with Thinkspace presented an exhibit titled 39 Stories: Street Art Saved My Life.
